There are some articles that I wrote awhile ago that are already ranking well in Google but I'm not happy with the titles I gave them. Would it be a bad move in terms of SEO if I were to go back and change a few of the titles? I'm asking because some of them have very non captivating titles and I wish I would have named them a bit better the first time around. But now I don't know if I go and change them, if they'll de-rank them? Does anyone have any experience doing this?

Hi Wendy. I'm thinking leaving the titles alone but possibly update the content if necessary.

Personally, I don't think it's a big deal to change the titles. True, you might risk losing rank, but you might stand to gain some. If you really like the articles and feel the titles suck, change it and see what happens. Or do one, and track it to see if you should do the others. I would try to keep your keyword the same, but other than that, I think it's worth a try.

I've done weird stuff with titles before and my website did not explode :)

Yeah well I don't think my website would explode, lol. I guess i could try it with an article just to experiment, couldn't do any harm.

Maybe you can change the title just a little without affecting the keyword.

Write new, do not even bother with the older stuff. :)

If you change the titles it's very likely that they will lose their current ranking and need to rerank as "new". Sorry! Rich.

Oh well... that's what i thought. I guess I should just keep focusing on making my new content have better titles.

Exactly. If you're posting regularly, the ones with the less than stellar titles won't be obvious as they'll get supplanted by the latest ones. It's all a good learning curve, I think it's better to add new and get more traffic than tweak old and possibly lose some. :) Rich.
