Can anyone clarify the difference between a tag and a keyword please and do we need to use tags all the time?

Thanks

Some experienced members here have explained that tags are really important and give people more ways to find our posts. I use tags that are phrases just like long tail keywords. I don't know if that is wrong but it seems to work for me and my tag phrases are picked up by the search engines and that is often how people find my site. I didn't use them at first until I read what those members said. Then I added tags and they really seemed to help.

You may not need to use tags all the time. They are not keywords though they look like them. Its for organizing your posts an d it might help visitors who are really spending time touring your site. Otherwise you want to pay attention to your keywords that will direct traffic to your site. in my opinion tags are internal tools while keywords have an eye through the window

Tags do direct traffic to our sites as very experienced members here have explained. I cannot explain it as well as them, but I took their advice and sure enough they were right. My posts rank in Google based on my tags as well as keywords and sometimes they rank higher for the tags. The training I posted by one of these members above shows examples of this.

Hello Gail:
Keywords are commonly short phrases used within the name of a website and in some paragraphs in the text, without abusing their use in it. As an example, when someone is looking for information through a search engine (Google, Yahoo, etc.) she or he types a few words related to what is being looked for; then the search engine looks for sites with names and content related to those words and shows in the screen the websites that were found.
On the other hand, tags are single words, separated by commas, that appear within the text of the webpage, that webmasters add as a complement support to keywords, but they have a similar purpose: make search machines find your website.
My own example of keywords: benefits of organic agriculture.
My site: https://suppliesfororganicagriculture.com/
And examples of tags: agriculture, organic, fertilizers, compost, insecticides, fungicides...
You can use many tags, but both, keywords and tags are optional; nevertheless, they are useful for your site to be found and ranked better by search engines. That is all part of SEO (search engine optimization). One more thing, when choosing keywords it is important that they have a minimum of 30 visitors and less than 100 competitors, so your site is better ranked. Jaaxy does that automatically for you.
I hope this helps.
Best regards from México.

Tags are good for intrasite navigation and to breakdown your sites content into more specific categories. Tags are basically a way to organize your site (similar to categories but often more specific).

Keywords are used in meta tags and don't usually physically appear on your website but are used to help google determine what your site is about.
