hey hi WA search fanatics, search engineers.....

have you noticed a Google quirk in the past day or two? ....

when i click for Google search, in the url ... Wikipedia blinks in and then blinks out ... while Wikipedia is considered a reputable link, why the heck would it be showing as just before Google? ...

what might this signify? .... any ideas?

thanks for your replies .... :)

I've not had this issue Keisha. Maybe check to see if you have any browser extensions running to be sure.

The reply from Joss may well be the reason. I have noticed it has seemed a little unusual recently.

Sounds like it might just be a browser issue on your PC, a bit of lag or something maybe if it's affecting the address bar.

Mine is a Mac, and it's usually pretty reliable. But you might be right lag might be the issue.

hi Dale ... appreciate your reply ... it just started up and it never did it before and i haven't changed anything recently ... just a wee quirk over the past day or so ...

good suggestion about the browser .. thanks, i'll check it ... :)

Yes Joss, but as you said in your comment further down you haven't experienced the issue - so a browser/device issue could still be the root of the problem for keishalina9.

Yeah my browser has been playing up a little bit lately as well, random black parts across it now & then. It's more likely the browser as a website does not have control over the content shown in the address bar (otherwise that would pose crazy security issues).

that's interesting, Dale .... i'm finding that wikipedia is still trying to be the 'search engine' in the address bar when i've got google as my default ...

do you think google may be doing something with wikipedia or partnering up and they've been doing some 'random testing?'

and if it's a browser issue, what aspect would you think it's being affected? ...

appreciate your diligence, Dale ... thanks! .... :)

I'd recommend checking out this Wikipedia help article & making sure it's not set by mistake: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Searching_from_a_web_browser

Even if Google/Wikipedia partnered up they wouldn't be able to change the address in the address bar. The address can only ever be of the website that you're viewing.

No, I haven't, Keisha Just tried it and nothing happened. But, I did log in to Google last week a couple of times and got to youtube. Isn't that strange? They're all tied together. Interesting.

.... yes, that is rather interesting ... uhm ... so maybe something's afoot with Google, then? .... or are they planning to swallow up Wikipedia and Youtube? ... they're so huge -- gigantic! ...

.... appreciate your reply and to know that it happened to your log-ins ...

... ok, let's keep half an eye open for any further events ... perhaps others may have noticed something? ...

... let's see what others may have experienced, if anything ...

thanks kindly, Joss, for your reply -- appreciate it! .... 🌹 ...
