I have over 4000 impressions and over 300 clicks in that last week in the Google Search Console, but everything in Google Analytics is at 0 for about 5 days now???

I added the "new" GA4 property and associated tags about 5 days ago... I looked up Youtube videos and websites explaining how to install GA4 and I believe I have everything done right, but I think it might be the problem...

Anyone out there has a clue what is going on and how I could fix this?

I'm having the same issue. It's been about 5 days at 0 on a couple of my sites. I went in and redid the verification process on Google Search Console. Thought that might have been the issue but they're still at zero. I'll follow this thread to see if anyone else has figured this out.

it's the analytic code you need to redo....not the search console...

Thanks! I just ran the gachecker from your earlier reply and it looks like it's not installed on my site anymore. Thanks for your help.

There you go a two in one today 😁

try gachecker to see if you stil lhave it installed on your site...
i found that in one of the updates made by all in one they must have messed up and got rid of the analytics code....
simple addition of your analytics script to ad inserter or all in one general settings>>webmasters tools ...miscellaneous verification box wil lsort it out...
have fun

Gachecker...hmmm Nice! Will certainly give it a try... I must have had the same issue. The code had disappeared... Will wait 24 hours and see if my traffic is back to normal 🙂

Thanks Phil!

your traffic doesn't disappear it is just the reporting of it to you... no trigger goes off each time a visitor comes to tyour site...
so you haven't lost the traffic only the data of the traffic....

Yes, I understand the principle 🙂, but it's kinda nerve-racking to see everything at zero...

OK so I did the GAChecker and got a green check mark on every article/page of my website but only in the Global site tag.

The rest of the columns (Universal Analytics, Analytics Classic and Analytics Remarketing) all have a red X.

Is this ok?

that is fine ...
hte global site tag is hte new analytics code
you should be getting your data from now on again...
this is the reason you should keep the code present on your site....
worth checking periodically

Damn, I had the same issue. Then a developer who was fixing some code issues on my site fixed them, never explained what he did though. Thanks Phil, now I know, you are a saint

Me as well Mr. Blanchard! MY
analytics is also zero for about a week now. I put in a help request to Google Analytics. If they respond to me with a fix, I will let you know. I am set with up with Universal and not GA4 b/c that is what WA recommended.

Yeah, everything was fine until I followed Google's lead and installed GA4, which is going to become the only Analytics in the future... Will try and figure it out :)

What is the GAchecker? Is that on Google Analytics I would guess? I noticed my Global Tag was in my ad inserter/header but was not included under AIO/\GeneralSettings/Webmaster/MIsc.Verification so I added it there as well. If I am off on this, please let me know. Thanks

GAChecker is a website that will check the "connection" of your website with Google Analytics. If you follow my thread you will see that my problem was that the code in header.php had been removed by some unknown reason...
Reply
feigner Premium
every time your theme gets an update for comaptabilty or security reasons all of the files get overwritten...including the head...hence any added code will be gone.....
hope that helped...and shows the reason to use a plugin...

Do you mean a header plugin instead of manually inserting the code? If so, I see the utility now🙂

Which one do you recommend? In Trish's video, she recommends the "Insert Headers and Footers" plugin. Which one are you using?
Reply

And another question...If I use a plugin, do I copy the code into it right away and delete the manually pasted codes in the editor?

i tend to use ad inserter plugin as this has other uses ( you can add easily things site wide or keep scripts together)
but you have already done it so you are sorted...
you added it to the all in one ( but i don't trust it as it lost it once...)
just periodically check with gachecker to make sure it is still in there....
i did training on using the ad inserter plugin to add hte older code but hte principle is the same for the new ga4 script.

you should only have the code inserted once as more than this can confuse google

Perfect!!! Thanks Phil

That was my main concern. So, to recap, I should delete the manually inserted code and use the plugin instead right? That way this mess won't happen again 🙂

that's correct - once it is in the plugin it won't be removed when updates happen.

Thanks! I ran the GA Checker and received all green checkmarks under the Global Site Tag heading, but red X's everywhere else. Should I be concerned?

no need to worry ...you only need one method and the most up to date is the global site tag....

Hey my friend, I have a difficult time placing my google UV analytics code above the <Head> within the source page. (Really, I can't seem to make the source page 'clickable'). Is there another easier way?

I was gonna just try putting my analytics code into each page, within the 'edit.' (edit, quick edit, trash, view) What is this plugin you mention? (I've been fighting with this for 4 days)

Hey Ronald... don't add hte analytics code directly to the head section of your theme as anything you add will be overwritten when you update your theme files in an update for compatability or a security update....
where you want to add them is into the all in one seo plugin>>general settings>>webmaster tools
there is a miscellaneous verification box..
copy the whole script from google analytics into the misc verification box and save ...
then to check something went in head over to gachecker.com and type your url in there and the global site tag should have a green tick for each page of your site....

that was hte easier way to explain it ...the other plugin i tend to use is ad inserter and i have created a training you only need ot go through one method
have fun Ronald.

Again thank you so much. I followed the steps through webmaster tool for each of my sites(I have 5) Four checked out good. All Green checks! Gachecker couldn't verify one of my sites. (Kept getting an 'Error. Couldn't be verified)' Phil, what do you think would cause something like this? What should I go back and look for? Thanks.

with that last one i would be checking where you added the code and whether it is still there...
if you view the site and press ctrl+u you wil lsee the code that makes up hte page....
then if you press ctrl+f and type in analytics you may or may not find part of the code... i have had this and needed to add the code again...
it maybe a conflict between plugins or themes... i have heard there are issues with classic editor at the moment as well ...
if you see the whole code from script to /script then yor site should be good...
remember this wil lnot stop traffic, it just stops you seeing the traffic and what it does while on your site..

I had the same issue last year, and the reason was that I changed my SEO plugin and somehow Google did not follow, so had to re-add my xml map; Maybe this might be it ?

It is obvious that your new addition did not work out. Do you remember to complete the process? You have to add your new tag between "head" i.e. your header.php directly or you use the plugin.

Every time you generate GA4, the tag changes, hence you have to update your header.php.

You can also test it live if it is working.

If all that is done. . . well we have gurus in the house. People will come to our aids.

I thought (from what I read in the instructions) that we did not have to "add" anything to the header.php if we used tags...

I did test it live with an incognito session and still at 0 :(

So should I take the code and manually place it in the Header.php? I checked and there is NO code there regarding anything Analytics...

The funny thing is I was looking at Luc's answer and I did some other changes not so long ago. I went with Rank Math Pro instead of AISEO in December and for an unknown reason, it wasn't showing my analytics so I "refreshed" the code in Header.php. I may have inadvertently deleted the actual Analytics code...🤔

I think I fixed it. I added the code back in the header.php and I have someone on my website right now (and it's not me)
Reply

Go figure...Google was telling me not to put in the code manually, but it doesn't work if I don't...

Great, it will work. Any time you change GA. it will change the tag and you must always revalidate it within the header.
