When I enter a URL into G's URL Inspection section of the Search Console, it usually says "URL is on Google".

Does this mean it HAS been indexed?

I've been running the Live Test and then clicking Request Indexing. But is that necessary?

I'm thinking if it already HAS been indexed, why is the Request Indexing button still there. It's not very clear.

Ian

Not necessary, Ian!
Then you have the phrase, "it can be indexed! Make it getting indexed, request indexing, till you get the rainbow G.
There is something strange going on Google. I heard some people were waiting on indexing for weeks, like me too. I worked with GSC for a few times, and then six blogs got the rainbow G and I the notifications ...

Don't let you fool by Google! :-)

Check it out, Ian. And just yesterday I had another case that GSC said submitted and indexed, but there was no G. I did the live test and got an error: not mobile friendly: clickable elements to close and screen to wide. I did here and there something - I know already what to do - and did the live test again. Passed. Requested indexing. Notification = rainbow G came instantly. I did this game with several of my posts, which were good in GSC but I didn't get the G.
The G is a reliable indicator that your post is FINE. There is also a question of crawling. When your post has an error Google won't crawl it.

Just play with it :-)

Ah......

I'd forgotten about GSC :-) although I did yse it on a previous site, However, I have a new site and I enter all the content directly into WP rather than WA so it doesn't appear in GSC.

Regarding the mobility error - I'm using Thrive Themes which is mobile-friendly. Also, all the posts have the exact same text and image layout. Ocassionally I get the same error, however I find if I click G's refresh button (sometimes 2-4 times required) it gives the liink the thumbs up. Very odd.

What are the specific problems that caused your error, do you know?

Fonts too small.
Fonts too large.
Clickable elements too close to each other.
Content wider than the screen.
I have also a new error with a link in a post I posted months ago. But didn't check it yet.

Google is odd ... ;-)

I'm just playing. It doesn't make sense to give Google even more power being angry on it ... :-)

Ha! Ha! You're right, Jenna

I've had the Contents wider than the screen error. But, as I say, I just Tested Live a few times and it went away. I just do that every time but next time I'll check and see what errors it's complainign about.

I don';t think G;'s as smart as people thing... :-)

Yes, it has been indexed. Requesting Indexing again is to prompt the bots to take another look which will take into account any edits and perhaps give you a boost in rankings earlier than if you didn't click.

Gotcha!

So many things about G are not 100% clear although I can understand the bit about asking for a reindex after an update.
Thank you.

Hi Ian,
I request indexing to all "new" pages, regardless,
and whenever I do an update on a page I repeat that:)

hint, I always go back to my page stats in Google console to see other keywords the page is getting impressions for.
and update the content, add a bit more to include those queries when its worth doing....

Go well bro
