I learn something on WA daily.

So today I decided to leave some comments on a few websites. I headed over to the comment sectiocn and what did I find.

As I begun to read I found mention of the blogger using StatsCrop to look under the hood of the website. Since I'd never heard of any tool like this, I headed over to check it out.

If you dont know what StatsCrop is, it is a website analyser. It give information such as the age of the site, number of visitors per day and such.

So I plugged in the URL for one of my websites(not yet three months old) and I was soooo disappointed.According to the stats my website was receiving 1500 visitors daily.

Not too shabby you say?

Since I check my stats in Analytics daily I know without a doubt that this was incorrect my traffic is definitely more in the just under 500 mark or so.

I therefore consider this tool unreliable.

Has anyone here used a more reliable website analyser tool? Having learn't of it I do believe it could aid in preparing reviews.

Hi Candy, none of those tool are entirely accurate when it comes to estimating traffic. Even the expensive paid ones like SEMrush and Ahrefs don't provide accurate numbers. For example I'm looking at SEMRush's traffic estimate for my site right now and it's signficantly less than my actual traffic. I also have an Ahrefs membership and their estimate is closer but still quite low.

Third party tools don't have direct access to a website like Google Analytics, so they'll look at things like the number of keywords a site is ranking for and the estimated number of hits it may get per month based on those rankings. Or it'll look at the amount of traffic from referring websites to come up with an estimate, but the traffic numbers they have for those referring websites are only estimates as well.

I'm sure there are other metrics they can scrape the web for, but unless they have direct access to your site, the numbers they provide for other sites you're analyzing are only a best guess.

Thank you Jay. Then this is something we will also have to keep in mind if we use these tools when doing reviews.

If this tool would provide reliable information it would be fantastic. After checking on my own website I tried it on AWeber, the stats looked great. Exactly what you would want from such a tool and more.

However, since the information received for my own site was inaccurate how can I trust it for any other?

Below is a picture with a small part of the AWeber Report. It even gives its competitors. It's really something if you can see the whole.

Tons of info. Enough to write a nice long review.

Don't quote me on this but by using three websites to gauge the accuracy of the information being offered I think that RankWatch is a much better tool. Definitely seem to have better results.

That's just a quick check so only time and continuous use and comparison will tell.

True but I can only analyze my own site with these. This tool allows me to analyze other sites.
