Hi

I just read that affiliate links need to be set as no follow or you can be penalised by Google. Dows anyone know if this is true? It's the first I have heartd of it. Thanks for any info.

Best,

Jean

No, they don't. It's a topic where lots of people will have lots of different opinions, but basically the "nofollow" attribute was designed to tell Google that you do not endorse the page that you're linking to. i.e. you don't believe it has any importance.

The nofollow attribute was, in reality, designed for spam (comment spam, forum spam, etc).

The correct attribute to use on affiliate link nowadays is the rel="sponsored" attribute.

Thank you very much for the answer. I thought they had to be no follow as well.

Haha, no worries Jean. It's not *vital* that you add rel=sponsored as it's a relatively new attribute, but to add it you would simply need to change to "Text" editor & modify the code of the link. WordPress by default adds rel="noopener noreferrer" so just add sponsored inside there, like rel="sponsored noopener noreferrer"

Some people recommend it, but I have watched some researches, and actually there's no difference when it comes to SEO results.
