How I've Managed To Get a Steady WA Referral Stream in Just 5 Months!

Like many of us here at Wealthy Affiliate, I am passionate about getting the good word out there about this wonderful program we have. I don't know bout you guys, but I find that Twitter is probably my most productive referrer so I always make sure that I am tweeting regularly throughout the day - and night! I know you can 'over-tweet' but I'm find that it is certainly paying dividends.

So I have a great plugin called Tweet Wheel 'Queues' automating all of my posts on all of my sites - both day and night at times of my choosing. For WA referrals, I also post manually and certain times throughout the day, and use Hootsuite's fantastic scheduling feature to post great WA content while I sleep in my bed! Aligned with some deft hashtagging, I can be sure that, come the end of the day, I'm getting around 200 - 250 inbound clicks on average a day... which is great. Better still, I'm now starting to see some of those convert here at WA, which is even better!

Yesterday. however, I had to forgo manual posting as I had other pressing issues to attend to. So, given my down time, I thought it would be a great experiment to see how many 'organic' inbounds (clicks and unique clicks) I got to see how much I need to rely on pro-active manual tweeting. As you'll see in yesterday's stats, I didn't get many at all - only 45 raw clicks, and 38 unique clicks.... Doh! Interestingly though, I did get a referral, which is great.

Which leads me onto today's stats! Firstly, I have another new referral - YAY! :-) But hang on... no clicks at all. Is this possible? This snapshot was taken at the beginning of the day by the way, but it seems I have referrals coming in without clicks!!! Hey, I'm not complaining,... keep them coming is what I say! But I would have thought I'd have to register at least one click - unique or raw - to get one referral!

Like I say, I'm not complaining. What it does demonstrate is that commitment -and I've been hard at it for only 4 or 5 months - does pay off and now I can see the referrals coming in steadily, which I'm overjoyed about.

I thought I'd share that with you good people as I know how demoralizing it can be churning out and promoting your content. But trust me, it does come good eventually. For me it has been 5 months or so. yes, I joined in 2015, but I promise you that I parked WA almost immediately for 2 years before revisiting it again 5 months ago. And I'm so glad I did. Like most people here, I'm truly grateful to Kyle, Carson and everyone else at WA for this fantastic opportunity - it is truly life-changing.

I'm only left to wonder where I'd have been now if I'd have continued with it in 2015! As they say, hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Good luck everyone, and please like or share your comments or questions below.

So awesome and inspiring Sean! Thank you for sharing your success! I have just begun but am determined to just stick with it :) Blessings to you!

No worries Amanda. Keep going, you'll be there in no time :-)

Glad to hear about twitter making impact on people's post, I sometimes got bored when my post stay ages without a soul clicking like or writing a simple comment, though I am not regular twitter.
I will try to make myself available for twitting.
Thanks for sharing

No problem Bibian,
Glad you found it of use.

That's awesome Sean! I've been considering beginning to promote WA as well, but I've been a bit afraid to jump in, because there just seems to be such a massive amount of competition, not just for WA related content, but the internet marketing niche in general.

Is your website/blog centered around WA? Is your social media presence directing traffic to your website? Or directly to WA?

Thanks for your post, it's been inspirational!

Hi Jordan.
Thanks for your kind feedback. I tweet links to both mine an other members' content (Blogs and tutorials) here at WA, and my WA promoting website. the key is to use your affiliate link for each tweet - you can find this on every page at the top of every post - yours or anyone else's.

For info. my WA niche website is targeted towards people looking to supplement their pensions in old age, or establish a new lucrative retirement plan through affiliate marketing at WA.

Thanks again. I really appreciate it.

Sean

Nice! Thanks for the tips. I will need to work extensively on my own social media presence, and will probably target recent college graduates.

I would love to check out your website some time, if you'd be ok with it!

Hi Sean ... maybe you could clarify something that has never been clear to me. What is the difference between a Raw Click and a Unique Click?

And do Content Clicks come from WA Blog posts that achieve a SERP listing that has been clicked on by an internet searcher?

Hi Dennis,
As I understand it Raw clicks are every click through to one of your affiliate pages here at WA - be that one of your own WA posts or profile, or someone else's where you have used your own affiliate link for that post.

Unique clicks are the same, except they are only from users that have never visited the WA site before. These guys will be counted on both raw clicks and unique clicks - so unique clicks can never be higher than raw clicks.

Content clicks are clicks to your posted content here at WA - be that blog posts or training pages. Interestingly, I'm not 100% sure these are also included in your raw or unique clicks. I say that as I noticed a week or two ago that first thing I one day I had 6 or 7 content clicks, but 0 and unique clicks.

Anyway, that's how I understand it. Happy for others to chip in as required.

Thanks again Dennis.

How do I use Instagram for this . Or how do you feel about Twitter? Do you have links to your tweet or a suggestion as to using social media for referrals?

Hi there,
That's a very good question. I have tried using Instagram to promote WA but the issue here is that you cannot add web addresses to the post - as you've probably found out yourself. The way around this to update your profile link with each post. There are tools to help you do this, such as Link Tree - https://linktr.ee/

Give it a go and let me know what you think.

Sean

Thanks Sean I still have a few milestones to accomplish within affiliate boot camp . I was just curious to how to prepare ahead :) but yes instagram is but not all that promotion friendly I realize. I can’t even link you tube videos there .

No worries. Glad to hear you're making good progress in Bootcamp. :-)

Sean,

Thanks for sharing your results. I suppose I need to be using Twitter more. There just seems to be so many things to work on at any given time that it can be overwhelming.

Best wishes for a prosperous week.

Thanks Sondra. Glad you found this blog of interest. And yes, Twitter is a great tool for referrals.

All the best.

Sean

Great Sean. Thank you for sharing not only the result but the whole story. It is not only how long we are in, but how much we commit to this fantastic opportunity.

Absolutely Anne. Commitment is a huge ingredient. if you have that, the as Mike says below, the referrals WILL come.
many thanks,
Sean

And since publishing this post 30 minutes ago, another two referrals have come in :-)

As long as there's an upward tick to the clicks you'll do fine!

Thanks Mike. :-)

Good for you - love to hear success stories

Is this plugin Queue automating from wordpress?

Hi Rich.
Thanks for your kind words. yes, it's a Wordpress plugin I have on all my sites. It's great as it allows me to tweet ongoing random or 'in order' posts on my Wordpress websites at times I can schedule 24 hours a day. So I have mine set up for the times I know that I get most engagement. And in many cases, that's in the middle of the night for me as I'm in the UK and the US is wide awake. :-) I'd highly recommend it. It does require API integration keys which is a bit fiddly, but if I can do it, anyone can. There are full instructions, so it's not too difficult.

Sean

thanks for that

My pleasure mate.

Hi Sean. Just reading through this content which is really interesting. Do you set up the queue plugin to simply tweet the links to different posts then, a bit like a round robin. So these get repeated regularly? Sorry - just trying to get a handle on it. Thanks for sharing this. Gail

Hi Gail,
Spot on. Yes, the Queues plugin can be set to post the same posts and tweet either in a random order, or in a designated order. What I should have also said is that you can add hashtags too, though these would be the same for all tweets. So yes, after a time, your tweets would be repeated, but i find they still generate unique traffic hits, so it seems to hit a new audience each time.
Cheers,
Sean

Thanks Sean. I've just followed you here and on Twitter - I see you are also in the UK! And I don't really understand the hashtags so I've posted a question about that too. There's so much to learn! :) Thanks for replying and have a great evening.....what's left of it.

Hey Gail. That's great. I am indeed in the UK - Norfolk to be precise. I will reciprocate the follow on both platforms. Thanks so much.

You too have a good evening, though I can hear my bed calling... it's been a long day!

Kindest regards,

Sean

Oh, and if I can help on hashtags, let me know. :-)

Great story and great info...thanks for sharing...

The pleasure is all mine :-)
