Blocks default to full width. A block can be configured to use columns. You are going to have to Be more specific to get a better answer.
I think it may depend on your theme, Shirley. A block can only be as wide as the theme's display area permits. Which theme are you using?

Marion is correct unless you do HTML Coding.
When I want to make a page wider I use Elementor as I have the option to adjust.
