Never too Old to.
Another peer on WA asked us to share if we had experiences others could learn from or relate to: This is one of mine.
Being a LCSW, I see individuals on a weekly basis who feel they are too old to.... I ask them if they were younger what would they want to do????
Example I share:
I share I am 65 and I started college at age 38 (first one in my family) and completed my Masters Degree 5 years later. I found a college that would allow me to use my life skills, (including my inpatient and outpatient treatment) as college credit.) After 10 years I decided to add to my education. I got tired of not being paid equally. I went back in 2006 and graduated 2009 with a second masters degree.
As of today I have 3 licenses in counseling and social work. 2 masters degrees, a bachelor of professional studies and a certificate of addiction studies.
I take a vacation once every 3 months, to refuel,
I made it a goal as soon as I could afford a cruise I would go. I am going on my 10th cruise in September.
The MEANING: You can do anything, anytime, if you desire to. You are in charge of making your dreams come true. One step at a time, one second at a time, one day at a time, you will see small miracles happen.
So, what are you waiting for?????

I love this. My site is geared toward retirees. So many buy into the lie that they are too old. We may have to do things a little differently and pace ourselves. But we are still capable of following our dreams and learning and doing interesting rewarding tasks. Love your spirit. You go girl! Lol
Thanks for the compliments. I will check your website out...always interested in what I can find for retirees.
Again Thanks.

Thanks in advance for checking out my site. It is very much still a baby and with no experience in building a website I have been doing a lot of struggling to get the content in the way I want it. Some people have trouble writing. I never run out of ideas to write about or any trouble getting it into words. I have trouble with the logistics. I don't know my way around WordPress and I think I'm having some compatibility issues with my PC. So that leaves only my phone (my tiny phone) and my Kindle. When you check it out can you tell me how to put the pic on there up at the top so it stays up there? It was at the top but I published a new post and it was attached to the old one and went down with it. Thanks. Comments and constructive criticisms will be appreciated.
Hi Sharon, its never to late to go to colloge. I too started college part-time aged 38 and completed a B.A. M.A. and a PhD. Irv.
I agree. At college age, in my era, I wouldn't even have known what I wanted to take. So it would have been a waste of money.
Thanks for the validation.

This says it all Sharon :

Thanks for a highly motivational and true life story post!
All the best, Steve
PS - And since I am older than you...........I don't even discuss the "age thing", purely a state of mind :-)
Nicely put Sharon, It may take a few years but it will allow you to make the desired changes , that leave you in the driving seat of your life.
Yes, Sharon, I fully agree! We are limiting ourselves when we think, we are too old to... For some external things we definitively are too old (nobody would hire you as a starting opera singer when you are over 40), but you can do other things. I started my teaching career with 40, but with 47 I felt to be "too old for finding a love partner", and I found the first best, as we say, which really was not what I wanted and it was hard to get away. With 58 I didn't feel "too old" any more - and I found my present marvelous partner and husband. AND I begin a whole new dive into computers, online learning and live streaming....
Fantastic! You are definitely a model for those who get stuck.
Glad you are doing new things on the computer, it is a world of it's own
Sharon
I'm not waiting anymore. I'm doing it. "They" tell me, at 68, I'm too old to find work, so I just make my own and have a lot more fun.
