This is a big question and I can't say I have the definitive answer but I've had similar experiences to yours with vision boards in the past so I feel your pain. This is what I've come to believe about them. It's exciting to come up with visionary ideas of what we want to achieve but whether we achieve them, I believe depends on why we want to achieve them, in other words, how important they really are to us and whether we believe wholeheartedly that we can achieve them. All too often because of the nature of vision boards, the things we put on them so far removed from our current reality that we don't have enough belief or staying power or drive to keep us on the road until we get there. So does this mean we should scrap vision boards altogether? No, for me, having a vision is important but what's more important is to break that vision down into goals and action steps. Rather than measure my success by whether I've achieved my vision I choose to focus on the smaller pieces that are going to get me there. I don't put the time on my visions because I simply have no idea how long it may take me to get there. Worthy vision is what keeps me going but it's the goals and in particular, the daily action steps I focus on.

I am sure I have a whole lot to say about this. First and foremost, the goals were unrealistic or you would have achieved them on schedule. Unrealistic expectations is a trigger for depression, did you know that?
