Liabilities Into Assets

When I lost my job in IT in Sept 2011, I found myself in a tight spot due to oblications I had to comfront to get by. We had one home schooled daughter at the time which means a stay-at-home wife, a mortgage, car payments, and all sorts of other stuff.

I found that you kinda learn new things faster and with more courage than if your life had been normal.

I was applying for a job all over the place, but I wanted it “right now”, desperately. While waiting for replies for job interviews, I kept searching online for anything “money now”. I found a website where buyers (companies) and technicians meet to get work done, field oursource work. To make a long story short, I ended up installing digital menu boards (DMB’s) for a major Burger chain restaurant to multiple cities and states.

Thinking about it today, I couldn’t have imagined myself brave enough to manage installing these big TV’s on the walls of these restaurants all over the place, never did something close to it before. Anything new seemed frightening, but It was a passionate desperation to propel me to do it and it wasn't at all bad after that, of course.

This opportunity actually worked in my favor, it turned out as a business up to this day. I have sub-contractors now since I can only handle a few of them as one individual. We’ve branched out to multiple kinds of field work related to all kinds of Technology.

I also ended up finding a very solid job on top of the business. So, that worked really well in the long run.

Now that I’ve “been there, done that”, unquestionably, WA is still preferable in my view once it takes off. That’s another topic later on.

Why I wanted to post my story here is because the thing that put me into a horrific situation is the very best place when I’m most fearless and daring. The opposite is true, I find myself slacking when everything seems great, at least financially, settling for the status quo.

Without the Goliaths (big obstacles), whether you believe the story or not, you’d never have heard the bravery of a young David either.

like when I lost my job, I need a big WHY here in WA to maintain a daily resolve while still financially “OK”. The three I can think of right now regardless of order are: Early retirement, travel while working less (just laptop and internet connection) and being with the ones I love more.

These might change down the road, but I’m positive they’ll keep me away from “quitting as an option”.

Sometimes we have to hit the bottom
to bounce higher and you do it very well!

Hi Babou3,
I agree. It just dawned on me, it's like a springboard that needs to get as far back to propel something to the highest that it could possibly reach.

That is cool, thank you for that reminder.

There is a saying “necessity is the mother of invention” and I think your life experiences prove it.

Best wishes,

Steve.

Thanks for sharing your story!

Happy Hump Day!
Donna

Absolutely. Thanks, Donna.

Great story, that was solid motivation for sure and if we have that mindsight we will surely succeed.

Cal

I never used the word "mindsight" before, but seems like synonymous to "mindset".I like them both. It's all in the mind, including what's required for success here at WA.

Thanks, Cal for the new mindsight ;-)

You're welcome
