I have received 17 comments where the author is one of my posts and is in response to another of my posts. Does anyone know what this is about? Just looking it appears that it

You don't really need a plugin. You can stop self-pinging by using the relative URL instead of the full URL when internal linking.

So instead of internal linking to
http://yoursite.com/full-name-of-post

Simply link to the extension only:
/full-name-of-post/

This should stop self pings. Test it to see if it works for you.

In addition, I do not allow pingbacks and trackbacks because the majority are spam and it stops getting a bunch of poor quality backlinks.

In WP >Settings >Discussions, in the selection at the top of the page, where it says "do not allow linkbacks or trackbacks from other blogs", if you don't want trackback spam, you can uncheck that option.

Hi Jude. Thanks so much. really helpful and works!!!

Well, I'm still confused about all this but I did learn something about a pingback and I think I might understand a little. Thanks for bringing up this topic. I will know what it is when it happens.

This is caused by your internal linking and is nothing to be concerned about. I get these pingbacks all the time whenever I reference another one of my previous articles in a current post. You can approve or delete, but again, nothing to be concerned about. All the best!

There is 34 now. here is a pick so you can see what I see.

wow, that is strange. I've never seen it but the others here I guess have. I've never heard of a pingback. I would have been confused too!
I learned something else new today. :)

That's a pingback which is your site talking to itself. You can just delete those.

how does that happen? I've never seen it. I didn't understand what he was asking lol.

When you link 1 of your pages to another page on your own site, it creates a pingback. But not every time which makes it even more confusing :)

Thanks Steve. Threw me for a loop.

You must be doing a lot of internal linking (which is not a bad thing) but you will get a lot of these pingbacks :)

I have not had this happen to me ... I'll be waiting to see the comments. M

I'm not sure what you mean. You said the author is one of your posts? Are you not the author? I'm sorry can you elaborate a bit.

I haven't had that happen so I'm glad you asked the question. I look forward to the answers.

They are probably track backs and ping backs. It's like your site talking to itself. I usually get rid of them, but let's see what others say first.

Really curious how they find your website and what it is they look for that would bring them there? They are def real people because they have to fill out the captcha to post.<

They are persistent! Software has been developed to target blogs and has been around for some time. I've noticed my spam targets one particular post on my website. It can even fill out the captcha info. It's a backlink software program.

Most of them are auto bots, not humans. Sadly, there are services that will pay human spammers .001 cents or some small amount like that per spam post. ~Jude

Thank you all. Makes sense. My Akismet does work also. It is catching them. Even some of my fellow WA peeps.

There should already be things set up in Akisment to help block these spams, you may want to check the settings.

If the spammers can find your website then REAL people can too. Don't worry, be happy - someone found you website. Yay! ~Marion

A combination of CAPTCHA, Askimet and the native comment controls can really cut down the spam.

They are fishing, hoping you click on their website. Akismet suppose to block if URL is in message

I agree with Carlalves.

I don't think they're particularly picky about which site they land on. I have five different sites and I've seen the same crapola on all of them. The sites are totally different, too. I'm sure they have software geared to leave bulk comments on as many sites as possible. Yes, they are real people, but technology is available to allow them to do this easily.

Should I have links in my images on may posts and pages or not and why?

judebanks is spot-on...

have your images redirect to posts or pages

I first consider the purpose for adding the image. Most of the time I remove the attachment link and select "none". This makes the image unclickable.

If I want my visitor to click on the image to visit another page on my site, or an external site, such as an affiliate page, then I add my affiliate URL, or link the image internally to another section of my website.

Some SEO plugins such as Yoast (not the All in One SEO), provide an option to redirect images as a 301 redirect to the post or page content, not just the images. When the image is indexed in the search engines, it will take visitors to the actual post. This has merit for anyone getting a lot of traffic through Google Image Search.

~Jude

Thank you Jude

A image link can be an enlargement of the image so the people can read it, or to a page you want them to go to.
Hope this was helpful.

l fee like I am programmed to click on images while online. In fact, if I click and nothing happens I feel a little disappointed!

Hmmm, just didn't know and didn't think anyone would want to click on an image that only showed itself. Best go back and put the image links in. Must be for SEO reasons? Thanks all.

exactly that

That is very important, why would you want to remove them....

lol I sure am John. I know i would for banners and such. I should have been more specific. I am asking about the images within my content pages and posts. I have been removing the link to the image there.

I would think so, Randy.

Yes, always! Why? Aren't you in the business of directing folks? lol John

Hi all. Have you already noticed that getting the time lined up to do what you need to do is not as easy as you might think. Especially if you are working full time. So juggl

On Creating time to run your business by r wood.
Just tonight ,has a matter of fact, before reading the post of r wood. I decided to treat my online business like a second job. Which means give myself no more then one and a half hours to take my shower , feed the critters, make a pot of coffee and snack before heading to my office . The rules are when I'm in the office I'm at work and not to be disturbed unless there is a Major and I mean major emergency. Dinner will be consider a clock out event and I have to be back to work in one hour. I have to do this otherwise I end up losing valuable time . Plus, due to the nature of my current day job working in the hot sun, which I'm not supposed to be doing because of the heat strokes I've had in the not to distant past , I'll sit down to watch the World News and off to sleep I will go. Just like a Ole Bear with a full belly.

I'm also the type that if I don't get at least most of what I had planned on doing done I get into a tail spin of sorts. I just feel like I get further and further behind. It could be because I plan my online business work for the day while working my day job and am all hyped up and ready to get right to it when I get home.

I tell you it is a constant battle . One that I'm going to win !

I am with ya JohnnyA. All the way. Think I'm gonna have to take some of MisterWailor's advise below.

As a new member and new to the online work field I am finding it hard to get going someday. However this is because I am trying to figure out how to do this full time, Laundry for my whole family breakfast, lunch and dinner for my kids and still have time for everything else in between. I really light your post i hadn't really set a schedule for myself but that sounds like just the plan. Also, this will let my kids and husband know when I am unalivalble because I am "working". Think for the answer to my problem. LOL

All the little things right. I know and you're welcome. You got this.

Yes we need to remember balance in our lives is very important.
This is your business, you need to run it like a business.
Schedule, is vital. We all have family obligations,
life obligations and business obligations.
Balance in all these areas is very important to successes.

I dunno....I've jumped in with both feet! I usually spend at least 4 hours a day on wa. I work part time for right now outside of the home, but for me, I know I need to set a schedule and stick to it. Otherwise I 'wander' lol

Glad you've jumped in with both feet. Keep it up but never wonder. I wrote a post you might read.

http://onlinetomarketingsuccess.com/being-an-internet-marketer-commitment-vs-self-doubt

I also work full time and get home, we get supper ready for the kids make sure they do their homework, then I try and work on WA at least one hour in the evening then time to turn in and start another day! I don't get as much done during the week so I spend a four hour block on Saturday afternoon to dedicate to WA. I think once my online business does well I can go part time at my day job!

Thank you for adding that Trellsworth. I know it will pay off as well. These positive comments are really good for others to hear that see this.

It is a hobby for me. I have fun doing it so I will just add content whenever I can. If I set a schedule then It becomes work.

MisterWailor I love that!!! Great thought process to adopt for sure. make it fun and it really is.

I know it's tough to find the extra time for running a business with everything else. I think it works best to break it up in small chunks, like maybe an hour a day, and some hours on the weekend. Then use any spare time for business.

Hi Starcreator. Yes it really is. I like your input thanks. Just have to put it all into perspective.
