Hey RIcky,
Do you mean the following tutorial: Adding A Custom Menu Widget If you do NOT have the Custom Menu Widget than you will not be able to follow that tutorial. I would imagine that option is available in his theme only... also, the tutorial I found (linked above) was created 4 years ago.
If you want a custom menu widget, you may have to Google search to find a plugin... OR ... change your theme for a theme that offers this option.
