Thank you so much for the article Ruoall. I feel I fall into that category.
I think the problem a lot of us have (me especially) is that we want our work to be perfect, and I suppose that will happen with time and experience, not overnight as we want.
The other dilemma we also have is information overload. I know the internet is great and all, but just sometimes it all get too overwhelming and it scares a lot of us off.
I am now going to try and "build my deck" one step at a time.
Cheers

Lydia, that's my biggest problem. Perfection. I want every single thing I do to be and look PERFECT. I have to restrain myself as this stops me from getting the task done. I think that too many people focus on nitty gritty nonsense rather than on Basics. The assumption that if something is Basic, it must be for newbies is SO dangerous in my opinion. Without the basics, how can you start build that deck?!

I noticed that a lot of us who want to work for ourselves, but came from working for someone else, struggle with this the most. I call it being conditioned like robots to have an employee mindset.

If you think about it.....most of us don't think twice about springing into action for an employer and building decks for what we believe is a secure paycheck. Also, NOT springing into action and building that deck would have consequences, like getting fired.

It's basically trading time for money.....all the while helping someone else (employer) build their business.

Doing it for yourself though tends to bring out all the fears and procrastination. It's hard to break years of robot programming to build your own business, no matter how much you want to be free.

Wow ruoall, this is so true and powerfully expressed. I'm afraid I have to identify with this 'battle of the mind' you describe. Many years ago I built a house in my spare time. Took me seven years. But every evening after a day in the office I would go round to the building site and say to myself "Just do it, one brick at a time". Thank you for reminding me how I managed to build a house!

John, I know exactly what you mean. I am by no means the most successful person in IM, I know all the pitfalls... yet, being human, I keep tripping. One thing I've come to learn is that most people fail before they even start, just because they do not start. I was there.

I have discovered this to be true myself. I`m full time on this so I try to always be doing something to improve. Problem is, after a couple hours I just can`t brain anymore and I find myself going to google analytics and checking my different keyword ranks over and over. Yesterday, I had a single visitor and I went to google analytics three times because I got so anxious. I guess what I`m trying to say is that time is better spent putting in work!

So true Choppydo. Since I do not do this full-time (have a sucky day job) I also find myself demotivated and inundated with nonsense on a regular basis. I have the same bad habit of checking my stats or emails every 5 minutes (just to feel like I am doing something). I then need to snap myself back and remind myself of where I am... and where I want to be some day.
