Choosing SiteComments or having them chosen for me?

I must admit that I haven't been on here in a few days, so this has probably already been talked about and I just haven't seen it. My 74 year old Mum finally managed to divorce my Dad so we threw her a divorce party on Friday night which continued on throughout the weekend :):):)

Anyways I digress.... The new SiteComments feature is great. I was fed up of leaving comment after comment in the 'give and take thread' only to have one or two comments left in return, so this is a great step forward. I've left 2 comments already, and practically straight away got a comment back.

In my excitement, I click onto 'earn more credits' and I'm asked to comment on a site that, to be brutally honest, I have zero interest in, zero knowledge in, and isn't even in my list of interests..... So I refresh the page, only to be faced with a different post from the same site. Refresh. Same site, different post. I click into my profile page. Activity dashboard. My lessons. Then click back into 'earn more credits' and the same blasted website is coming up!!! T'would seem that I am not actually allowed to choose NOT to leave comments on a particular website focusing on a particular niche.

So how does that work then....?

We're told to leave 'quality' comments... how can they be if I simply skim over the content thinking 'blah, blah, blah' because I literally don't care....?? I know that I could leave a comment that is based on the overall look of the site. Grammar, layout, colours, images, links etc.... but I find that quite tedious to be honest. I'd rather leave a relevant, meaty comment or none at all.

Is this how it is going to be? Is anyone else having an issue with this or am I just over-reacting.....?

Anyways, hope everyone had as good a weekend as we all did :):):)

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe Kyle will take a look at that.

I had that same problem yesterday and it got me very frustrated. What is the point of choosing your interests if you get stuck with pages I have literally no interest in. So I use SiteComments for the first time and all it showed me were these pages!? I did all the same things you did, selected my interest a couple of times again, waited a few more minutes and the same pages were there.

To make things worse when I finally gave up on it and go to the "Share your beautifull content" thread I can't paste the url of the page I want a comment on, after I'd left one already. And, no my computer was OK, I checked. It was just on that WA page. Could it be that once you use SiteComents you can't use the other thread???

Anyway I had to leave comments on two websites I had no interest in. I'm not saying SiteComments is bad, it's not. There are a lot of good things going on for it. But, is this how it going to be?!? Commenting on 0% interest sites!????

Hi Jyl, Thanks for asking this, I read the reply chain and find it very good to know how it works. I have been on it and it works miracles for me!
I noticed two other things: your dashboard comments will not light up anymore as you will receive a warning in two other ways.
Do not be tempted to put your comment on the site as well, as you will end up with two the same comments. Cheers, Jerry

So Jerry, when you say that your dashboard comments don't light up, does that include any comments that might come from outside WA....?

Jyl, as far as I can see I have had only comments from inside WA!

I didn't even know they had a comment request I just started using it. I found the same thing with some priority sites repeatedly showing so I edit my choices and re-entered and the site was gone.
Got lucky I guess.

Hi there Jyl, must admit I had a chuckle when you talked about your Mum's divorce party too!!

"......Grammar, layout, colours, images, links etc.... but I find that quite tedious........"

As others have found, me included big time, any of this will get your comments disapproved anyway, so no need!!!

Good luck
Mark

That's a good feature though Mark. I suppose general website critique should still be asked for and given on the website feedback forum. But yeah, I do prefer to get comments on my actual content, so I'm happy with that :)

Hey this made my day. Read it twice because it made me laugh the way you wrote it. Glad to see you got the issue sorted out.

Also, I seem to have missed out on the launch day's unlimited comment requests...... typical...... :/

Same for me so I have to edit the area of interest again to funel the website that I am really comfortable with. One curious question is when we give two comments to get one back so at one point of time there will be more given comments left over. How can WA manage this unbalanced comment?

VERY interesting question......!!!!

I've realised that last night I posted 2 comments then put in 1 request but got 2 comments back for the post. So maybe we can 'request' once but get 2 comments, keeping it all even...? Wonder has anyone got more than 2 comments from 1 request.....?

Yes. I had one request in for a post and got 4 on it.

Nice :)

When you first "signed-up" for the comment thread, you should have been asked what your interests are ... WA has a whole list to choose from. Then, you should only be asked to comment on those interests you provided them. If the list was not available to you, then please contact support and they will help. As with anything new, there will be a few glitches here and there, but none that can't be fixed. Hope this helps and God Bless!

Hi Cathy. Yes, I did go through and tick only those that interested me, but this one came up... so I went back in to 'edit' my interests and there's literally nothing that I have ticked that could have included this site.... It's changed now to something a bit more pleasing to me, so I suppose it's panic over :D

My experience with the new thread is that I receive more comments than I give, that is how good it is now. It works. It is advised to make at least 50 words so try to do this and everybody will be happy.

As for the issue of the same site appearing, just leave it and come later, it will be gone. I asked, and here is answer from Kyle:

Ah....... that makes perfect sense. It means that every post that is put up for a comment gets one before moving another post to the top of the pile. And also that if I wait it will eventually change. Cool, thanks :)
