You've already gotten a lot of great advice here, but I'll add my two cents. No, you don't need a product as you'll find out in the courses here. If you already have something that you're passionate about or love doing, the certification courses under the "Get Started here" button are a great place to find out more and if not, you can promote WA with the "Affiliate Bootcamp" courses.
As for finding out if ideas are good or not, I'd just ask the community here what they think about them. That's what makes WA such a great place, people helping each other out. If you're ever stuck or have questions just ask.

The system does work. But you cannot sit here and guess how it will turn out. You have to do the work. You will also know once you have a great idea because you have all of us to compare your notes with!
A niche is something that is going to have to bowl you over...meaning in order to monetize your website, what you talk about or create is gonna have to make your head spin with excitement and enthusiasm. Because getting this program to pay you back is going to require you being involved 150 percent! It is not just the idea...but the person behind the idea that makes it fabulous!

Oh, and it is good to ask questions. You will see along the way what type of questions help you along, and what type are a waste of your time. Also here at WA every question has been answered for you either in a lesson, or by the members, and logged here on the site. So just look around and you will find the answer. Great questions. That's what this whole Wealthy Affiliate journey is all about. You can choose to go one of two ways. If you have no idea and no product, you can learn the business and make some money promoting Wealthy Affiliate. On the other hand, you seem to have lots of ideas and possibly even a product (your expert advice in any of several niches). So start with the green "Get started hear" bar to the upper left of your screen and decide which way you want to go.
In the training you will learn how to turn your great ideas into a lucrative online business. But it's not a get-rich-quick sort of thing. You actually learn how to build a real business, which will take real time. The information is also there to help you find out how good your idea really is. You can gain access to tools which will help you assess how many people are interested in your topic, and how many compteting sites already provide the information your targeted custom
What an amazing series of questions you have asked. You have three questions that all serious entrepreneurs must answer for themselves. Everything that exists from simple tables and chairs to big companies like Microsoft started with a thought. Thought turns to ideas and concepts which when connected lead to dream and vision. An intense focus on an inspiring vision leads to an organized plan. The plan requires action. Action leads to results.
All lucrative businesses started with a concept/idea to provide a solution to a need (niche) in a market (people somewhere in a buying cycle). There are several keys to locating your perfect niche:
1) Is it something you have knowledge about or are willing to learn more about so that you can write authoritatively and help people find answers and solutions?
2) Is it something that gets enough monthly searches from likely buyers...e.g. is there a starving crowd of people?
3) Is your topic big enough and profitable enough that big players like Amazon, Clickbank, Dummies Books, Ezine Articles, About.com, and magazine publishers consider profitable enough to venture into...if yes then there is a great likelihood that your idea is big enough to be profitable. (BTW Amazon is in over 500 markets, About.com is into over 800 markets.)
4) Once you identify a big category market you need to narrow your idea into a smaller under served niche of people. For example, you may be very passionate and knowledgeable about health and fitness. Narrow health and fitness into weight loss (a problem) and then narrow down further into weight loss for diabetics, or healthy weight loss for busy career women, etc.
As to how you know if your idea is good...test it. Ask for help from the WA community! Hope that helps. ~Rebecca
