6 Tips for Staying the Distance with WA

My 100-meter Dash

When I started at WA all starry eyed and bushy tailed just a short while ago, I had grand ideas about all the hours I would dedicate to building my business. And not just hours, but every waking moment that I had 'free' would be spent in front of the computer.

I was excited about starting a business, I would get all the tools and training I needed to succeed, I would have a wonderful community of supporters, and of course, I would make a lot of money.

I committed to at least 40 hours of business-building a week. My rationale for this was that I committed to the same number of hours each week, for many years, working for someone else. And I still do. So why should I not do the same for me?

Additionally, I know that the more work I put into my business, the sooner I realize my goals.

But that would now mean working at least 80 hours a week. Yikes! And trust me when I say, at the time I started with WA I felt like I did not have enough time to complete everything I needed to.

The Marathon Runner

While it is good to have lofty dreams and to set ambitious goals, SMART goal-setting requires that the full package must be realistic. That's what the 'R' in the SMART acronym reminds us - Be Realistic.

We all want to go the distance with WA. We want to build successful businesses, achieve our goals and live the dream life.

However, it will not happen if we over-extend ourselves. We will become frustrated, exhausted and demotivated. Constantly feeling this way will eventually lead to physical and mental bankruptcy. And you will no doubt throw in the towel and give up.

I know you are familiar with the adage 'The race is not for the swift, but for those who can endure'. Remember this when you are writing down your time commitment for WA and business-building.

Six (6) Tip to Keep You Going Longer, Stronger

1. Go after your goals at a pace that is comfortable for you. As you start to learn new information - and there is a tonne of information here at WA alone - the going will be slow at first. Be patient, stay calm and have an open-mind. After a while, as your knowledge of the business deepens, you will absorb new material much faster.

On the other hand, do not use this step as an excuse to put off those tasks that you are not comfortable with yet (like writing content). Procrastination is the thief of time, and as you know, time is money.

2. Take a break from WA. Really, this is a good idea and it will serve you will. Go check other websites about your niche. Read up about successful affiliates and how they made it. Adjust your goals based on your newly-acquired knowledge. Start and keep adding to your list of things to do when you are making a lot of money.

Recently I researched luxury spas and I was so enthused and felt all bubbly inside just thinking of spending a day at the spa with friends and not being concerned about the prices. Niceness!

This is exciting and it breaks the monotony, takes you away from the 'same ole, same ole'. When you get back to WA, you will be refreshed, bursting with new ideas, and inspired to go another ten miles.

I started WA at 2:30 a.m. today. After an hour or so I got stuck in a particular area, I asked for help in a couple different forums at WA, and I left those questions to marinate. So here I am writing a blog. Later in the day I will check out the answers from the very supportive community, and go at it again. No pressure.

3. Be mindful of unintentional learning, it could benefit you. Now that you have started a business, your awareness should be peaked to everything that can help you succeed. You never notice how many bright green vehicles are on the streets until you own a bright green vehicle yourself. It works the same way in business. Your eyes and ears are now open to everything relating to your business.

You may overhear a conversation that gives you an idea for a niche or for a domain name. You may be watching television and recognize a need that can be fulfilled through your website. You may be using your phone or other device and realize that you know a simpler way of getting something done.

Always be ready to take advantage of this kind of unintentional learning.

4. Help others and you help yourself. Whether you are in the WA community or elsewhere, help someone else whenever you can. I once heard a motivational speaker say 'you get everything you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want in life'.

When you at the very least TRY to help someone, especially with a concern that you don't think you are knowledgeable enough about to shed light on, you help yourself as well. Just thinking about it and trying to conceptualize how to go about it, increases your aptitude in the particular area as well. This could serve you well in the long run.

5. Keep a notebook and pen handy. When you sit at the computer to build your business at WA, or even while researching on other websites, be prepared to take notes. Not just of what you are researching, but of the inspirational flashes that you will get as well.

Sometimes you may be focusing on a particular task, and want to stay with it until it is completed. (It is quite rewarding to exercise this kind of discipline.) Or you may be doing something totally unrelated to your business.

Then an idea flashes through your mind for a split second, and you believe it is worth exploring. Just make a quick note of it in your book, and get back to what you were doing. Do not trust your memory to recall it later. Some time later, take a look at your notes and if you still think it is worth exploring, go right ahead.

All your ideas may not materialize into a fantastic invention, but at the same time, you did not miss out on a possible opportunity, and you gained some insight along the way.

6. Stay fit in body and mind. It is vitally important to stay physically active and to calm and soother your mind frequently. A healthy mind produces a healthy body.

Take time every day to take care of you. At least twenty (20) minutes of vigorous exercise (jogging, cross-fit or other high intensity workouts), or for a longer period if the intensity of the exercise of lower, like with walking or biking.

We want to be able to enjoy the fruits of our labour, and we can only do this if we are physically and mentally able.

The Finish Line

The above tips have been working for me in other areas, and I have been applying them to building a successful business with WA. You can print and stick them in your notebook and refer to them often if you think they can be help you.

I also include the time spent doing these activities as business hours. Sneaky, huh? It may be, but it all contributes to the end result - building and maintaining a wildly successful affiliate business, and enjoying the fruits of your labour.

I hope you find this article useful. I would love to hear from you so please take a few minutes to drop me a line (remember tip #2).

All the best to you!
