Tik Tok 101 - Finding Your Way in the App

I find that it is difficult to get started with many apps and computer software. Often you see that it is the computer geniuses that have designed the software, and it makes complete sense to them where to find your way around on it.

But there are exceptions, and I think that Tik Tok has done some really good work with the UX(User Experience). It is basically three clicks to do and you have published your video. But, Oh yes, there is a but, to maximize the reach of your video there are a few additional steps to the process.

Creating an Account

Creating an account is the first thing to do. And you can sign up by email, phone number or via a third-party platform.

After you sign up you are taken to the profile setup, where you are assigned a username and can upload a profile picture. Set up your profile in a proper manner. Upload a good profile picture with good resolution, change the profile name to reflect your niche and business.

My user name is "roysinOnline" as that is my business name. I have also written my full name above the profile picture with what I do;

"Roy Solheim - Marketer"

In the profile description, you are allowed only 80 characters, so you must be smart with what you write. I have put 3 links in mine:

• one to wealthy affiliate,
• one to Legendary Marketer and
• one to my website.

The final thing before you start using the app is to go into the settings area, you get there by clicking the three dots in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

Scroll down almost to the bottom, and find the type of account and make sure it is set on "Creator". It gives you more creative features of use than the other 2 types, which is personal and business accounts.

Navigating the Tik Tok

The home icon on Tik Tok is called the "For You Feed". The " For You Feed" shows videos base on what you look at, like, bookmarks and saves. In other words, Tik Tok decides which videos to show you that are likely to fit your interest.

If the videos are not to your liking, swipe passed them.

The icons on the right-hand side of the screen, from top to bottom, shows the profile icon for the creator of the video you look at. The + sign on the picture makes you a follower. Clicking on the picture takes you to the profile page.

The next Icon is for liking the video, the third icon is for commenting on the video, and the fourth icon(the arrow), takes you to the menu where you can share the Tik Tok video on social media. The row of icons beneath the social media row, give you different options as to what you want to do with the video.

If you don´t like that video, you can click the don´t like icon or you can "long-click" on the video and get the same choice.

The spinning icon shows the music or sounds the creator is using. Clicking on it gives you the option to save it as a favourite to use later.

Creating Videos

CreatingVideos is easy. Click on the + button on the homepage and start recording! That´s it. Experiment and try the features and effects out, and learn the platform as you create videos.
