Pinterest Nugget of The Day

Pinterest can be a real golden nugget if used "correctly". Despite the fact that you can quite easily get suspended if you are new to the platform, it is a platform which is very beneficial for your business. Last year I went from 0 to almost 24K impressions in a matter of two to three weeks on one of my accounts.

The status now is 843....Why? Because I veered off track. I back on track now and will be persistent on the platform and will share some info each week about Pinterest

The source material I am using is info from Tailwind´s blog and from Pinterest's own blog.

The Month of January

Pinterest Statistics is an important activity for each month to see which pins are producing most traffic. Start by making an excel file or similar and write down the number for the following factors at the end of each month. Remember to note down what the numbers are on January 1st for you to have something to measure from:

  • Pageviews (impressions)
    • Pinterest pageview numbers from Google Analytics
  • Follower
    • Your total amount of followers
  • Save rates
    • Your total monthly saves
    • Fetch the numbers from:
      • Analytics>overview>performance over time>Saves. See below the graph, there you will find the total saves for the month

Keeping Yourself Update on Trends and Your Stats

Take a look at what is trending on Pinterest in relation to your niche. Check your Boards on how they are doing. If they no longer have much relation to your business, remove them, or rename/adjust them accordingly.

What about the trends? Do they show a need to put up a new board according to the curent trends? If you have Tailwind, you can use their insight feature to determine how your Boards are doing.

Are Your Pins Healthy?

Have you remembered to put everything you "need" on your pin? What about your brand? It is wise to put your logo and/or your name on every pin. In the middle or at the top is recommended.

The practice will build awareness of your presence on the Internet.

Have a great "pinning" day!

Good morning Roy,

Thank you for your very informative and interesting blog post, it's appreciated.

I do try and pin blog post photographs, I have to say I don't really know what I'm going, I just kind of do it, rightly or wrongly! After reading your blog post I checked out Jay's webinars, it's probably worth me taking a look to make sure and doing things correctly.

Out of interest Roy, how did you learn about Pinterest or are you just following the training here at Wealthy Affiliate?

I do use Twitter and Facebook and I really like LinkedIn. I have never been able to get my head around Instagram, I think probably because you can't use links. It appears people get on really well with Instagram, I guess we can't do everything.

I'm not a great fan of social media, however, I do know that it can help our online business grow.

Have a great day and thank you for the info.

Roy

Hi, Roy. A lot of very good questions. Jay´s webinars are the best place to start and to study. They give you a great starting point, and to build your Pinterest presence from.

What I have done in parallel is to search the Internet for additional resources to explain Pinterest, Instagram and other platforms workings. What I have found is that both Pinterest and Instagram ahs their of blogs with tons of very good info and guides, further, to me, Tailwind is essential both in learning Pinterest as well as planning the scheduling and design of my pins.

Tailwind also has the possibility to join into "tribes" which significantly helps the exposure of your pins to a larger audience.

Other resources which help to understand both Pinterest and social media channels you mention is Hootsuite blog, Later and Hubspot. They offer incredible amounts of knowledge for free.

I like Linkedin very much like you do. It is great. Instagram is also a favourite of mine, but I haven´t learned how to use it. And by the way, mentioning Instagram, you can use links, but you have to put them in your bio.

Roy

Good morning Roy,

Thank you so much for your reply.

I agree with you, Jay's webinars are very informative. To be fair, more often than not, I will listen to Jay's webinars when I working on my off-line business. However, there are times when I need to really be watching Jay's webinars rather than just listening.

It's interesting how much information is out there for free, I hear where you're coming from regarding blog information.

Tailwind is something that I haven't used Roy, I guess it's something I need to look into. There are so many different products and platforms out there!

I often think that LinkedIn is very underrated, I find it so much more professional than Facebook. I have actually made some excellent connections on LinkedIn as I believe people on LinkedIn are genuine business people.

I hear you regarding using links at Instagram, that's the bit I don't quite understand is you can only have one link in your bio. However, I do know people who use Instagram very successfully for their off-line business and online business. So it obviously works for some people.

I actually listened to Jay's four-part series on Instagram about a year ago, they were good. However, I was working at the time and only listening or half listening! I probably need to watch and take notes at the same time to appreciate the full benefit of the webinars.

Have a great day Roy, I believe you're working very hard and will smash it!

Roy

Roy and Roy, 🙂 thank you for this VERY informative exchange.

RoyB, it is an excellent idea to venture out of WA and do some research online to read and learn.
Even though we do a lot of training and classes here at WA, there's still a lot out there.

Sometimes 1 tip can take you to that "Ah ha!" place where it all comes together.

DO not be afraid to explore.

I love LinkedIn as well and am starting a 21-Day Challenge today with a Writers' Members' Group that I subscribe to.

Cassi

Good morning Cassi,

Thank you for your input, as always, it's appreciated.

Just one point on venturing out of Wealthy Affiliate Cassi, and I know I brought the subject up in the first place! Wealthy Affiliate has everything we need to get started and beyond. One thing I would take care of in the early days is not to get information overload.

In the early days, I purchased so many products that I didn't have a clue which one was the right product. At the time when I was a beginner, it just brought huge amounts of confusion and information overload!

I think once we have a better understanding of how Internet marketing works we can carefully venture out to other places. At the same time Cassi, I fully understand exactly what you're saying and where you're coming from.

Your LinkedIn writer's members group sounds like a great group to join. I guess this also helps with accountability.

Have a great day and happy writing.

Roy

Thank you, Roy.

I am very fond of Linkedin, and I am in line with your impression of the platform, and as you say it is often underrated.

I have yet to see Jay´s Instagram webinars. I will have to do them preferably this week.

Roy

This exchange is like a MasterMind session, brainstorming and exchanging ideas 😃.

Enjoy your Writer´s challenge. It is great for accountablity :-)

Roy

Roy, this is a remarkable occurrence and not by chance.

I JUST! published a blog at WA about this exact thing. Following that, I read your comment and it is a summary of what I wrote.
I agree with you FULLY!

Everything that we need is right here at WA.

My writer's group on LinkedIn is for my freelance writing business, which is actually growing since I joined WA.
I have been a member there for about 5 years.

Eventually, that will also be fully absorbed into my WA business as I am moving those services into one of my websites.

Thank you so very much for sharing.
Your wisdom is appreciated.

Cassi

It sure is, Roy!

I am enjoying it and supporting it with Kyle's 5X writing efficiency lessons.

The progress is mindboggling!

Have a good day.
Cassi

Thank you, Roy.

I think Jay's webinars were around about a year ago, there was a serious of four webinars. I'm sure they are very good, I was listening as I was working my off-line business. I'm sure they would have been much better if I sat and watched and took notes!

Have a great day.

Roy

I can vividly imagine the progress, Cassi :-D

Roy

I will start in the first one today 👍🏼

Roy

🙂

Hi Roy,

You shared some great insider information to help those choosing to use Pinterest to promote their businesses.

I have one question for you: how many referrals have you gotten from your efforts of working the Pinterest platform?

I find with most of the social media platforms it is not time efficient. What I mean by that is my time spent working the platform versus my referrals coming from that source.

I just find that posting material on my website and getting organic traffic from the search engines outperforms any other method of promoting my website, so why bother with the social media platforms at all?

Calvin

Calvin, I am new to affiliate marketing, just 9 months in, and have not been working Pinterest or social media platforms to drive conversions. I have only used social media and Pinterest to get acquainted with them and how they work.

Nevertheless, I have gotten conversions into commissions from my websites via Facebook, not from any other social media or similar platforms like Pinterest.

What I am aiming for as I start out once again with Pinterest, is to convert the impressions from my Pinterest accounts to traffic on my websites. The more the merrier, which will increase the chance conversions into commissions.

One thing that in my opinion is crucial to understand Pinterest is that it is a creativity search engine and not a social media platform. When working with Pinterest we need to understand the aim of the platform.

Roy

Hi Roy,

Great answer, and I hope that you're able to achieve your agenda of using the social media platforms.

Good luck and keep us informed on how it is going using them many will be interested in your overall results and analysis of the platform itself as well.

Calvin

Hi Roy, when I started with Pinterest around a year ago it was great and so much fun. I would made pins before going to bed and in the morning my pins would have between 800 and 1400 impressions each. It was great, and around 30% of my traffic was from Pinterest
Since they have changed the algorithm, Pinterest gives me a significant number of one whole impression for my pins. I have contacted them as I thought it was a bug (again), but this was not the case. My monthly visitors dropped from around 40000 and kept falling to pretty much nihil.
I still make a pin for each article I write, but if it is worthwhile? Time will tell. Maybe you will give me the eye-opener in your updates.
Jude

Thank you for the information, Jude. This is absolutely something to dive into and investigate. Hilde has had the same experience. Tailwind should definitively know a lot about this since they are official Pinterest and Facebook Partner.

Roy

Hi Roy, thanks for your reply. I would love to understand how to be successful on Pinterest again, but it looks like they have made it tricky.
When I contacted them, they told me it would take time to recover my monthly vieuwers, and they did notice I had quite a few pins from other people and they prefer pins of your own.

I have then tried using real minimum amount of other peoples pins but my impressions remain single figures up till this stage

Have a great weekend.
Jude 🌺

I am reading up on the new algorithm as we speak. I will see if I can get something tangible out of it🤓.

Roy

Hi Roy, I am excited to read about your findings.
Have a great weekend.
Jude 🌺

Have a good weekend as well, Jude :-)

Roy

I have still not figured out Pinterest Algrithm to be honest. When I started I increased views rapidly just like you. I had almost 50K. Then Pinterest changed the Algorithm. They introduced Pinterest Ads. and I dropped down week by week even if I posted consistently. I think they have put a reach limit in the Algorithm much like Facebook did. Ads and videos are getting way more reach.
I have tried to follow the Pinterest Advices:
Post new stuff - not old
High quality pictures
Link to your website
Not more than 10-15 pins a day
Use the Pinterest Search field for Keywords to Titles
Sharing others stuff
Add videos
Add description on all boards and pins.
Using Tailwind for more Reach (hashtagmanager)
I am still on the same monthly number As I have been since the Algorithm Change

I suspect you are right here

This is interesting information, Hilde. When did this occur?

Really interesting Hilde

Great post and a reminder to me I need to get to grips with Pinterest now there is a special offer on tailwind I don't do it consistency that is the problem and I know I keep preaching consistency in blogging. Don't do as I do regarding Pinterest do what Roy says!!!!!!!!!!

Just as an aside it may be worth you telling people what tutorials here inspired you

Thanks, Catherine. The tutorials can be found on the blog pages of both Tailwind and Pinterest. But I will highlight this point on the next one int he series from me, planned tomorrow about Instagram.

Roy
