To Comment Or Not To Comment On Website Blog Posts?

Recently I asked a question at Wealthy Affiliate to see if I could ask for comments even though a few of my websites are not hosted at Wealthy Affiliate. You can see the answer to my question in the link below.

It never fails to amaze me how much we can learn when we ask a question at Wealthy Affiliate. I appreciate that some questions are answered in better ways than others.

I must admit that I don't normally ask for comments, although, in the past, I have asked for a few comments but they have been minimal. After reading all the comments, I was thinking is it really worth asking for comments as it takes time as we are giving comments in exchange. I appreciate that if we are going to take we obviously need to give!

One member believed that he had read that comments could be tracked. This wouldn't surprise me as I'm sure that Google knows a lot more about us than we would dare to believe! Another member mentioned that she didn't use comments and had numerous posts on page 1 of Google and Bing, which is fantastic!

And then another member really felt that it helped to give older posts a lift. To be fair, some really interesting answers.

So I wondered what other members felt was better, to use comments or not to use comments?

Any thoughts and comments are appreciated.

Thank you for reading.

I did way back when, Roy, but then I stopped! I didn't have a website set up that was worthy of comments!

Jeff

That's interesting Jeff, maybe you need to start again?! I'm sure most websites are worthy of comments!

Have a great weekend.

Roy

Perhaps at some point, Roy! Affiliate Marketing is not really my passion, I am more into promoting my books and setting up my Woocommerce site! Life issues and my locksmith business and eBay store are still taking a lot of my time as well!

Enjoy your Frisatsu (weekend), my friend!

Jeff

Hello again Jeff,

I understand what you are saying! The great thing is that although Wealthy Affiliate primarily teaches affiliate marketing, the training can be used for promoting many types of business. I'm sure that you're finding the training beneficial for everything you are doing?

Have a great day and thank you for the good wishes.

Roy

Comments, whether organic from your blog post's exposure or "paid for" through Wealthy Affiliate, help your post's ranking by increasing its length and (perhaps) its keyword density.

Comments through WA are sometimes brief and off-topic but I have no hesitation in editing them to more what I want. I'm inclined to leave miss-spellings and grammar errors alone though, as they improve visual veracity.

Good morning Phil,

I appreciate you taking the time to comment; thank you.

That sounds like a good answer, Phil; we are making the most of the platform in this way.

It's interesting that you don't correct misspellings and grammar errors; I know where you're coming from.

Have a great day.

Roy

Thanks, Roy.

I feel that comments are important to the WRITER to gauge the effectiveness of the post and its content. If a writer does not know if they are connecting with the audience then they could write the best post in the world and it would go unseen or unnoticed because the writer was disconnected with the audience.
Jerry

Hello Jerry,

I hope you're doing well.

That's a very good and wise answer. I'm just going through the comments right now, I'm sure that I will have some more interesting answers.

Have a great weekend.

Roy

Comments do add to the content length of your article. If they ask a question and you give a quality answer its adds value to your content.
If they just take up space to add word count they are very useless.
Quality comments are the only ones that are valuable. They are harder to get here than naturally. Natural comments only come after you gain some traffic, just have to filter the spam comments.
I did use the comment sections here for a while, had to rewrite some comments for them to make sense.
Was it worth it, I think it helps get some post off the ground a little faster if you get some comments that make sense.
John

This is why I like comments, too. Also, if the comment contains references to the article that you are promoting, it adds to the keyword count.

Good morning Chris,

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my blog post, it's appreciated.

I hear your wise words, I just sometimes wonder if we are actually better off writing more blog posts rather than focusing on comments. I guess there has to be a balance between writing blog posts and comments.

My guess is that on a new website and as you mention, it helps the post to get off the ground a little faster with comments.

Have a great weekend.
