Locked Out By Microsoft!

Have you ever been locked out of your PC or laptop due to not being able to login? Today I went to log into my Windows 10 laptop, using the same password that I always use. However, the laptop refused to let me in telling me that I was using the wrong password. I carefully put the correct password in several times, but again it refused to let me in. I then rebooted my laptop and put the password in and it let me in!

I have had this happen before a few times, thankfully not many times though, probably a fraction of a percentage. Does anyone have any idea why this should happen?

I use Microsoft one drive with my laptop, I believe that with Windows 10 you have to login through your Microsoft account. I think when I had Windows 7 you could have your own personal password which had nothing to do with a Microsoft account.

It's frustrating when you can't get into your own laptop or PC and time consuming. Thankfully, all is working now, I'm just curious why this should happen. Maybe if I was a Mac user, I might say "this could only happen with Windows"!

Thank you for reading.

I haven't had that happen, but today I was locked out of one of my websites. When I tried to log in, a WP screen came up asking me to log in. When I entered the last password, and WP declared it no good. When I asked for a new password and gave them my email address (did this twice, actually) they were supposed to send a password to my email address and they never did.

Things happen all the time that we can't explain. Considering how big this organization is, I am surprised it does not happen more often.

Hello Fran,

I hope that you're doing well. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question, it's appreciated.

Passwords, usernames et cetera can be very frustrating at times, especially when we are putting in the correct password. However, generally, there seems to be a fix, although sometimes rather time-consuming. I've had similar things happen with WordPress Fran.

Enjoy your day.

I have not had this happen, but I have had Microsoft office refuse to let me use a program. I believe they were updating or trying to optimize my experience. I do not remember.

I have only had this happen with office 365, but it has happened at least twice. No matter what I did it refused to open the program.

I was trying to open an Excel file. I had to reboot the machine in order to get it to reset. I find this extremely frustrating.

This never used to happen when you were able to purchase the programs outright.

Hello Alexander,

Hope you're doing well. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question, it is appreciated.

It is very frustrating when you know your putting in the correct password and it tells you that your password is wrong! Technology is great, however, there do seem to be some flaws sometimes!

When something doesn't work correctly it can be extremely time-consuming, thankfully the issue hasn't happened many times.

Wishing you all the best.

Roy

Yes, that happens to me before as well. I understand. Sometimes check your keyboard. You may accidentally hit the Caps Lock or your Cap Num on.

Also as mentioned below, make your account local so you don't have to log in through the internet. Other than that, I can't think of anything else.

Hello Ha,

Thank you for responding to my question. It's interesting that you have had the same issue. Thankfully it doesn't happen too often and a reboot seems to solve the problem I hear you regarding caps and number lock et cetera, these are very easy to knock and to leave on without realising. However, I have checked these features and they are definitely off.

I'm not sure if I can use a local account as I use Windows 365 and one drive so they are kind of linked, although I think there may be a workaround.

Have a great day.

Roy

I see. You need to link to the internet. I hope you'll find a good solution. 😊 Thank you Roy for posting the question.

Have not used a PC at home since 2007 when I bought my first Apple iMac and once in those years I changed my Apple Id which was easy to do.
We had several times employees could not get into their, but just called IT to reset. Hope it works better for you.

Hello William,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question.

Thankfully windows has come a long way since 2007, I remember Windows XP being extremely frustrating at times. However, Windows 7 and 10 seem so much better, apart from the odd niggle like this one!

It's interesting that some of your colleagues had an issue with their Windows computers. It's very useful having IT support to call upon though.

Have a good day.

Roy
