Is Your Website Like A Shop Window?
The title of my blog post today is your website like a shop window? I was just looking at my homepage on one of my websites thinking that some of the products on the homepage need updating as my website is fairly seasonal. Many of the products are not representing the spring season, so, I think it's time to change things around.
I often think our website should represent a shop window. To be fair, I rarely go into town as I really don't enjoy retail therapy. However, I do know that retailers regularly change their shop windows to attract more customers. My wife works in a fashion store, they are continually changing the shop window and how the store looks to attract more customers.
Although it's a good time of year for my website at the moment, my offline business is also busy. So, it's harder to post quite so regularly, when this happens the effects are noticeable in Google analytics. It's actually the time I should be posting like mad and changing my shop window!
I use the Themify theme which seems to be able to offer absolutely amazing functionality. However, there is a huge learning curve, I'm fortunate to have a Webmaster to assist me with the process and who knows the functionality of Themify extremely well. I'm sure there are many other themes that do a similar job, but I want to try and stick to one theme and learn the functionality.
I have the theme set to show the latest two blog posts on the front page. The theme also allows me to show many other seasonal products that can be changed at any time. A very useful feature indeed.
I use a data feed to add products to the website and then blog to the various products on my website. The data feed is a great way of populating a website quickly and keeping the products up-to-date. Themify allows me to show different products on the front page that are added through my data feed software.
The reason I'm writing this blog post is to remind you to keep posting, I see a big difference in views when I don't post as regularly. I have never had quite enough time to write blog posts out of season or maybe it's a lack of me not being organised enough!? In an ideal world, I would like to write blog posts for the spring and summer months in the middle of winter and schedule the posts in WordPress. It's definitely something to think about.
So the moral of the story is to keep posting and keep your homepage like an up-to-date shop window.

Glad to see you have discovered the difference in traffic when posting new content to your site. We have too and the search engines always seem hungry for new content.

It's been a long time since I've looked at Themify. I'll have to check it out. It's home page functionality sounds very useful.
