Blog Posts YouTube Or Both?

Last Update: August 20, 2020

Just a short blog post today.

I believe that most of us at Wealthy Affiliate are busy trying to write content in the form of blog posts. I must admit my content creation has slowed up the last few months due to my off-line business being so busy, which is kind of good news! Although I want to be able to spend more time on my web business.

I had been writing about 4 to 5 blog posts a week and then creating an associated YouTube video to embed into the actual blog post. This seems to work absolutely fine, however, it is fairly time-consuming.

I find it much quicker to create videos, rather than a written blog post, especially if I have knowledge on the subject.

So now I'm starting to create a video first about a subject and then write a short blog post and embed the video into the blog post. I could write a full length blog post on the subject, but once again this is time-consuming.

I'm going to experiment with creating more videos and less written content. I will still embed the YouTube videos into a blog post on my website.

A few questions:

How do you think spending more time on YouTube will rank on my website? I will embed the video into a short blog post.

Do you think I still need to write a full length blog post associated with the YouTube video?

Thoughts appreciated.

Thank you for reading.

Roy

Yes, Youtube has a lot of traffic, and for some reason, people much prefer to see a video than read nowadays. I think there are more visual people online, and since a picture is worth a thousand words well three memes or three pictures will give you 3,000 words, or almost.

I'm like Eugene, always saying I'm going to get out there and while I have all the equipment to do so, I keep putting it off. That's going to be my new resolution.

Hello Joss,

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog post, it's appreciated.

I remember when I first started out online several years ago, the top Internet marketers were saying that video will be the future. That sounded very daunting to me at the time as the last thing I wanted to do was to show my face on a video!

It does seem that people are very picture orientated, I guess this just goes to show when we think of platforms like Pinterest and Instagram. I don't use Instagram or hardly use Instagram, I do use Pinterest a lot more, just to share my content. I don't think I've ever been to these sites to actually search for content.

Regarding making videos, I would just make up your mind to start creating. I think once you have made your first video you will feel like you have broken that mental barrier that is stopping you, the feeling will be great. I certainly would say that I'm not great on camera, but all I can say is that it gets easier and hopefully practice makes perfect.

Have a great day.

I can see your dilema! I think that you should definetly focus on writing as it looks better, then your website is filled with valuable text, saying that videos are great too, people prefer watching videos sometimes...

Do a bit of both! Sometimes short blogs with videos And sometimes a full length blog post!
People will appreciate both, therefore your website will look captivating!

Good morning Farah,

Thanks for taking the time to comment, it's appreciated.

I see what you're saying and it makes a lot of sense. I think I will try a little experiment and try and see which works best. It will take several months to determine.

For me, it's definitely quicker to create a video, we have to remember though, everything takes time.

Have a great weekend.

It's clear that you don't have as much time as you used to for the good reasons you mention. I'd propose you start with the quicker video making and then follow up with the blog post.

We are Blessed.

Good morning Dave,

It's good to hear from you, I hope you're keeping well.

I know you are quite keen on YouTube Dave. Do you think it's better to write a full-length blog post or could a brief description work with an embedded video on a blog post?

Have a great day.

I do a mix of both but some times the video with short description does the job
