Are You Running Your Online Business With A Phone Or PC Or Something Else?

I have been reasonably active here on Wealthy Affiliate for the past few weeks. Something that amazes me is the amount of people that appear to be running their online business using a smart phone! To be fair, I can't think of anything much worse than using a smart phone to run an online business!

I must admit I'm not a fan of smart phones, I know they have a uses, but I find they can be very distracting and time consuming. For a man's hands they are very fiddly, or is it just me being clumsy!? I literally do all my work on a PC or laptop, I even have text messages and WhatsApp messages come through to my PC.

I always think that productivity and ease of use is a key to a successful business, surely this is impossible on a smart phone?

If you are using your phone to run your online business I would like to suggest that you can speed up your productivity tremendously by using a PC or laptop. For me trying to write a blog post on a smart phone would be painful. I must admit I have done this when I've been on holiday although I use Dragon anywhere to speak my blog message out, it is much quicker than typing on a smart phone, but still slightly painful!

Is there anyone here who actually makes money online using their smart phone?

Does anyone just use a tablet to run their online business?

Thank you for reading, thoughts and answers appreciated.

Roy

There is no way I use my phone for my business, (which has barely started) & use an HP Laptop, separate keyboard & a large screen attached.
I use my phone to make or receive a call only.

As an old guy, I need all the help I can get. LOL

Denis

I fully understand!

Good morning Denis,

Thank you for commenting on my blog, it's appreciated.

That sounds very wise Denis. It sounds like you have a good setup with a separate keyboard and screen, it's important to make life easy and simple well we are growing an online business.

As to regard your last sentence Denis, I think it's absolutely fantastic that you are taking action. I don't believe that we are ever to old to start learning. My aim is to grow my online business so that as I get older I have to do less hands-on physical work with my off-line business. So far, it seems to be working!

Have a great day Denis.

I understand too!

Well said Mick.

Thanks

Well, Roy, I agree with you. I CAN do things on my smartphone but prefer NOT too. It takes me twice as long. I believe it's fat fingers for me. I prefer my computer. However, the younger generation seems to have no problem. Based on how fast they can text, I often wonder how long it will take for them to have issues with their fingers.

Hello Debbi,

Thank you for taking the time to comment, it's appreciated.

I hear you Debbi, it takes me more than twice as long and is much more frustrating to use a smart phone. Fat fingers for me to! It's amazing how much time the younger generation seem to spend on their mobile phones! And how quickly they can text, much quicker than I can!

Have a great weekend.

Microsoft Surface tablet 12inch and HP laptop are my tools. It covers when Im in my home/office or remote away from home. I use my phones to browse emails and other quick items that don't require typing for Business activities like blogging. However, proper tools are needed for this type of business and as you pointed out, laptop/PCs are at the top.

Hello Reggie,

Thank you taking the time to respond to my blog post, it's appreciated.

I have just been looking up what a Microsoft surface tablet actually is, I don't know if it has exactly the same functionality as a traditional Windows laptop? It looks like a useful device. I have a small android tablet that's quite old now and I did wonder if I would be better off with a Windows type tablet.

I hear you big time regarding laptop and PCs being at the top of the list for productivity.

Have a great weekend.

Roy

I use my desktop mostly which is in my office. Though I do all my social media on my mac laptop first thing in the morning. I have an ipad pro that is used for my other business, doing artwork.
Then I have a laptop I take with me when I travel to stay with family 3 times a month. I do check emails on my iphone but rarely answer them on it.

Hello Linda,

Thank you taking the time to comment, it's appreciated.

I'm curious why use your Mac laptop for your social media, I have never used a Mac computer or an iPad. I know people who use Macs and iPads rate them. Is a Mac laptop easier for doing social media?

It sounds like you have a good setup anyway, I'm all for making life easier and simpler.

Have a great weekend.

I just find it easier and quicker somehow. I go through social media stuff at high speed and it keeps up. Plus its in the house and everything else is in my office down the garden.
Thank you, hope you have a great weekend too.

Remember when our smartphones were actually used for just talking on the phone? 🤔

Outside of answering emails, I've started reading blogs and posts at WA through my phone, but then quit doing that because it would be a distraction. I do most of my blogging and research straight from my PC.

Though, I do know a few users here who would went through periods where they didn't have a laptop and had to do everything on their smartphones, which is convenient.

Thanks for the post Roy
Isaiah 😊

Hello Isaac,

Thank you take the time to read my blog post and comments, it's appreciated.

That's very true Isaac, I guess smartphones have been around now for 10 to 12 years apart from the blackberries which were slightly different. Our phones have become portable computers!

I think this can be a big thing with smartphones they can be very distracting, as messages start appearing and other things happen. I think it makes much more sense to put time aside and do everything from our PC or laptop.

It is amazing how many people do use the phone for everything, although I can't really see how you can run a business efficiently from a phone.

Have a great weekend.
