Are You Connecting With Other Wealthy Affiliate Members On Zoom?

As we all know, there are some fantastic members with a wealth of knowledge on the Wealthy Affiliate platform. I always think that we can learn so much from each other by sharing information and asking questions etc.

Last night I had the privilege of having a Zoom meeting with Jeffrey Brown, a long-standing and highly active member of the Wealthy Affiliate platform. The meeting went on for around 3 1/2 hours, we could have carried on, but decided to arrange another meeting for later on.

Jeff has written a short blog post about our meeting which you can see below.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/jeffreybrown/blog/slippery-a...

It has never failed to amaze me how interesting people are, I don't mean this in a nosy way, I just mean it in a genuine interest way! With my offline business, I meet a lot of interesting people, the great thing is that most people are pretty easy to get on with generally have something interesting to say.

I was asking Jeff why he joined Wealthy Affiliate, he told me that he joined because of the hosting. This was a totally different reason for why I joined Wealthy Affiliate; I joined because I wanted to be part of a platform with like-minded people and to have up-to-date training. I guess many of us have joined Wealthy Affiliate for different reasons. We don't have to be an affiliate marketer to join Wealthy Affiliate!

I actually didn't use the Wealthy Affiliate hosting for a couple of years. I was already paying a hosting company to host my website, however, the hosting seemed to go downhill in performance. So I thought I would try the Wealthy Affiliate hosting, I must admit I was surprised how well it worked. I was also literally paying the same price for my hosting as I was for my Wealthy Affiliate membership. So the hosting really was quite a bonus especially as I had been paying for alternative hosting, when we can use the Wealthy Affiliate hosting for free!

I do now also have a dedicated server where I have some of my websites as I needed a bit of flexibility. However, I still use the Wealthy Affiliate hosting for some websites, I believe for most people and especially if you are just starting out, it is a great bonus.

So getting back on track, I have carried out a couple of interviews with fellow Wealthy Affiliate members and I plan to do more. Jeff has carried out five interviews with various members.

I can definitely recommend carrying out Zoom meetings with fellow members, especially as many of us are spread across different parts of the world! It's a great way of meeting new members and encouraging each other with our online businesses.

I'm based in UK and Jeff is in the US, it still amazes me that we can have a great conversation via Zoom, despite being across the pond!

I'm open to more meetings with Wealthy Affiliate members, I also suggest that you give Zoom meetings a try. It's great to communicate within the Wealthy Affiliate platform with other members, however, a video meeting is the next best thing to a face-to-face meeting!

Thank you for reading and have a great day.

Roy

Roy, i am happy you are enjoying Zoom meetings.

The community here is one of the biggest benefits of WA - while the training is good there is also good training in many other places (like Udemy ; ) however what they all lack is the COMBINATION.

Training
Community
Resources
Support

Along with the fact that most other platforms either prohibit direct communication between members and any efforts to have collaborations, meeting etc. - or they at least try to limit and control it.

Violating those rules can get people tossed off the platform and out of those communities.

For example I know I guy who built a six figure plus annual income on one platform - yet he violated their rules to the point they booted him off the platform. So he went from a very high six figure income to ZERO income overnight. Ouch...

I like you am interested in other people, their history, successes, failures, motivations and ambitions - and find it all fascinating.

There is so much we can all learn from each other if we are open minded enough to try.

Have a great evening my friend!

Best regards,

L.D. Sewell

Good morning LD,

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment on my blog post, it's appreciated.

I agree with you, the community is great here, it is kind of like we are all in the process together! I remember when I first started out researching Internet marketing, back in 2004, I was out there alone! I cannot tell you how beneficial it would have been to have a community like Wealthy Affiliate to ask questions and to connect with. I was working so blind, Internet marketing was new to me and I didn't know which way to turn and yet I saw the power and potential of the Internet!

I must admit that I haven't used Udemy much, but I believe that you are quite familiar with having written a few courses. I do know that Udemy is popular for short courses.

That is terrible that someone had built up a six-figure income and then get thrown out of the platform, that hardly sounds morally right.

I know that this is slightly different, but I remember my Webmaster saying to me years ago to beware of platforms like Facebook, Twitter etc. as they can kick you out at any time. This was before they had so much authority! His words have been very true. He has always told me to make sure that I use my websites as the main platform. I appreciate that this is easier said than done at times especially if you're selling something like courses!

I think it's great that we can share in other people's joy, success and when they are stuck and need to ask a question we can help out. To me, this is how life should be! I also believe that when we help others, we are gaining trust and the favours are returned in a natural way.

Have a great weekend.

Roy

Hi Roy, and the advice you received years ago about other platforms you do not own and control remains sound.

I use a number of platforms, including Udemy, Wealthy Affiliate, Facebook, YouTube (Google Owned) - and many others to help build my own business empire.

Yet I am always cognizant of and careful to remember - I do NOT OWN THEM - and that means there is always the potential for the powers that be to destroy or damage those parts of my business and income production opportunities that come from them.

So while they all have their place and their benefits - I am careful to never put too much of my business in any one of them alone and to be sure to keep working to build more and more of my core business on my own platforms (own sites, own training platforms, own direct publications, etc.) that are difficult or impossible for anyone else to limit, control or otherwise meddle with.

You and I are like-minded in the belief that helping others and building trust will also help us in the long run too.

Best regards,

L.D. Sewell

Good morning LD,

Yes, I definitely agree with you. I'm very fortunate to have a Webmaster who doesn't go with the flow, but thinks beyond the flow

I think is good that you use a number of platforms and I believe that many of us do. The great thing is I can see with your Facebook group it's growing, which is fantastic. I would like to try and have a little bit more input within your group, especially as I know that you are trying to build. I will try and participate more.

It's very wise to try and build everything on platforms that we own or have control of as you rightly mention.

Maybe this is a bad example, here in the UK, a few years ago and before smartphones, almost everyone had a Nokia phone. They were simple, they worked and they were reliable! However, now they hardly exist!

Just six or seven months ago Gettr was released as a new social media platform to challenge Twitter. It's growing at remarkable levels as people are fed up with Twitter's narrative! I believe the same thing could potentially happen with Facebook! Who knows?

Have a great day and thank you for commenting.

Roy

Hi Roy, Your phone example is a good example as far as I am concerned.

I think the old saying " Never put all of your eggs in one basket...." is also applicable - especially when you and I do NOT own the basket!

While it can be good to use others platforms and resources we should never rest our whole business on any one of them for obvious reasons.

That is why I am working very hard toward driving more and more traffic (people) to platforms I do own and control. I will use the others to help me accomplish that - and to both get and give value so long as it remains mutually beneficial - yet be prepared to sever ties at any time it becomes necessary too.

Best regards,

L.D. Sewell

Good morning LD,

Thank you for your reply.

I often think of that saying "never put all your eggs in one basket" it's a very wise saying; it's good to spread ourselves around a bit.

I agree with your principles, it sounds like a very wise way to gain traffic. It's always good to use the resources that we own and have control of.

Wishing you all the best.

Roy

PS: I guess we need to get the Zoom meeting booked in at some point?!

Explain platforms I do own and control.

How about trying "Please" or "could you..." etc. instead of wording your request in a rude way.

I resisted the Zoom wave for as long as possible. I just was nervous about being on camera in front of a group. Starting in January 2021 I finally started feeling a bit more comfortable but still leave my camera off when I can.

I do think its an awesome idea and a great way to connect with other people here though! If you ever want to Zoom with me just let me know! (Although I am a real novice so probably don't bring much to the table yet.)

Good morning Jeremy,

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on my blog post, it's appreciated.

I understand where you're coming from, I remember when I created my first video it seemed really hard, especially the camera bit! They say that practice makes perfect, it certainly seems to help when we take action!

It may be worth you watching a few of Jay's webinars, he talks in several of his webinars about becoming used to the camera etc.

It would be great to do have a Zoom meeting at some point with you Jeremy. I believe that every member has something to offer and at the same time, we are all learning. I think you probably have a lot more to bring to the table than you could ever imagine.

I noticed that you are a veteran, congratulations on serving your country. I admire anyone who serves their country.

Have a great day and I wish you every success with your online journey.

Roy

Good morning, Roy.

It is good that you and Jeff were able to "meet" using Zoom.
It is an excellent platform.

I also use Google Meet and Microsoft Teams sometimes.
Of course, there is What's App and Messenger.
They are all very good for communicating with each other.

Thank you for sharing and wishing you an excellent week ahead.

Cassi

It was GREAT fun, Cassi!

Jeff

I am sure that it was, Jeff!

Have a good week.
Cassi

Hello Cassie,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on my blog post, I do appreciate it.

It is actually something that we have been meaning to do for quite some time and it has finally happened! As Jeff mentions below, it was good fun and great to meet up with a fellow Wealthy Affiliate member.

I think I have used Microsoft Teams once, but not Google meet. Is Google Meet the same as Google Hangouts? I don't know if you can use messenger on a PC?

I use WhatsApp video occasionally, however, although I use WhatsApp on my PC for messaging, it cannot be used for video calls on a PC. I must admit I'm surprised that they haven't made WhatsApp compatible for video on a PC.

Have a great week.

Roy

It was indeed!

You too, Cassi!

Jeff

I loved every minute of it, Roy!

I completely agree with your assessment, Roy! Zoom meetings can be potentially profitable in many aspects, not only solidifying friendships with other members! It seems to be quite effective for a great many purposes!

Looking forward to our next meeting too!

I hope you are having an enjoyable Sunday, my friend!

Jeff

Good morning Jeff,

It was a pleasure to meet up with you on Saturday and good fun too! I believe that we can learn so much from each other, as you mention, but also fantastic for friendships.

I hope you get your house sorted out quickly and business booms.

Let's book another meeting for the near future.

Have a great day.

Roy

I totally agree, Roy! I am looking forward to our next meeting! I have a few tasks to perfomr before we do though!

I hope your new week has gotten off to a GREAT start, my friend!

Jeff
