An Experiment With YouTube And Fiverr

I recently created a video promoting Wealthy Affiliate and uploaded it to YouTube in the normal way.

I then went on to fiverr.com and looked for a gig that would potentially promote my video, this is not something that I would normally do, I just thought I would try a little experiment! I found someone who could potentially promote my YouTube video, he had great reviews and came recommended. I have to say that my experience with fiverr.com is not been the best over the years.

Within a few weeks the YouTube video had around 1500 views which was great, however, most of those views came from Poland, Brazil, India, South Korea and Argentina, in fact these were the top five countries that viewed my video. In other words the chances of people buying your product is quite low in these particular countries, I believe.

Interestingly enough, the video has been watched almost all the way through, the video is 7 minutes 21 seconds long and the audience retention rate is 6 minutes 47 seconds, which comes out at 92.3% retention rate. I'm actually surprised that people have watched the video almost all the way through, the last 20 seconds of the video is me closing and asking people to sign up to my channel.

Most of the traffic has came through Facebook, which I guess is from me paying for the fiverr.com gig.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this topic, for example, when people see my video now they can see that it has 1500+ views that looks much better than seven views in three months etc. And, I'm guessing that people may be more likely to watch due to the number of views this video has received, thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you for reading.

I have been selling and buying on Fiverr since Jan 2011. I made a lot of money as a seller and have been working with extremely competent sellers as well, but there are several services that I have tried many times and would not recommend. They are:

- buying traffic (they will be fake or inactive people)
- writing unique content for my websites (unless you are prepared to pay the price like $50+ per 500 words)

But I can recommend other services like:

- webdesign
- creating videos
- graphic design

and more that I have not used.

In any case you need to test before getting too involved. To tell you the truth, the number of positive reviews means nothing as there is a way for sellers to have only such level of trust.

Hope this helps your readers Roy, and thanks for sharing your experience with Fiverr.

John

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my blog post John.

I hear what you're saying John and I believe with fiverr.com that we have to be very careful indeed, thank you for pointing out the do's and the don'ts, I appreciate it.

I also hear what you're saying about the reviews, I wrote a negative review quite a few years ago and it actually didn't show up in fiverr, I just had my money returned! This actually defeats the whole purpose of having reviews.

Enjoy your weekend John.

Roy

That's right Roy, as a Fiverr seller, it is far better to refund than to have a poor review, so that's what they do to remain at the top of the Fiverr searches with only 5 star reviews. But I don't mean that they all do it though, there are some honest sellers in the pack, it is just a matter of finding them.

John

Thank you John, I appreciate you giving me the tips, very helpful.

On another note, I read your profile page the other day and it is fantastic to hear your success story, very well done and very inspiring too!

Enjoy your day John.

Roy

be interested in seeing how this evolves too

I'd be extremely wary of such situations, Roy. This number of views that came out of the blues could send up a red flag in Google's systems, and your seemingly high source of views can backfire on you.

I hear you James.

Thank you for taking the time to comment and have a great weekend.

Quite a lot of Fiverr gigs use bots for this type of thing which will eventually get caught out by YT and Google. I would be very wary of using Fiverr for this.

Thank you for replying Jon, I hear you! Most of the traffic came from Facebook according to my analytics, so would this be carried out via a bot, do you think? Something that I don't know about.

Enjoy your weekend.

Roy

Hi Roy, most of these gigs that send traffic generally send junk traffic or irrelevant traffic to your website or videos, which usually results in a very low if not 0% conversion rate. This is why it is important to do WA's training, so you can get the targeted traffic to your website.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my blog post, I hear what you're saying 100%, it's interesting to read the comments.

Enjoy your weekend.

Interesting I have been making videos for years and it is a much quicker way to get ranked in google but I would never buy views so I agree with Chris if the video is interesting and creates value the views will come. I share my videos on my FB business page linkedin, twitter, and so forth this has always worked for me

Thank you for taking the time to reply Alan, I do appreciate it. I hear you 100% in what you're saying, Alan. It sounds like you are sharing your videos the correct way.

Enjoy your weekend,

Roy

Interesting...never heard of fiverr.com before. I will be watching for more results.

Thank you Fran, there are some interesting comments on this page.

Enjoy your weekend.

Hi Roy! ... Interesting experiment and the initial results look very good -- once you get to a million views, then they'll start paying you, apparently! ... need to verify that ...

and yes, videos are the way to go! ... all the best, cheerio.. 😊

Thank you for taking the time to comment Keisha. I hear what you're saying although maybe not quite as simple as this, there are some interesting comments on this blog post.

Enjoy your weekend.

I would never buy views outside of AdWords or YouTube ads.

Your channel or the individual video can get penalized just like a website can. Be careful with that.

I agree with Chris - be careful about this Roy. Yes, it looks better when people come that it has more views, but YT and Google are getting better and better at detecting if someone is trying to manipulate, and it can backfire to buy views when you have no idea about how he is getting the views

Thank you for taking the time to reply Chris, I hear what you're saying, according to my analytics, most of the views came via Facebook. Incidentally, have you tried youtube ads? I believe YouTube ads can be quite an efficient way to promote your video.

Enjoy your weekend.

Roy

I agree with you Mike, according to my analytics, most of the views came through Facebook. My experiment was really to try and boost the video for starters, in other words, if there were two videos with the same title and one had 7 views and the other had 1500 views, I would definitely look at the video with more views! However, I definitely do not want to be banned or penalised!

Enjoy your weekend and thank you for taking the time to comment.
