I am an ITY part of humanity . I am HUMAN . but what about HUMANE?
So many thoughts, ideas ran through my mind today regarding being human, being 'humane', being a small part of an immense whole....etc. Toward the end of the day/week/month/year, I have learned to take a personal 'inventory': daily to mull over the day's events or situations, weekly to make sure I'm 'staying on track', monthly to grade my progress, yearly to sum it up and make special plans for those areas that need serious addressing.
Last night, as I pondered the day it came to me that I have started to get lost in the physical and material end...my blogs, websites, learning, emails, bills, food, etc. What I couldn't count on both hands were random acts of kindness, smiles, helping without being asked .... etc.
It was a sobering and sad moment. I had started to make my physical efforts toward self too important lately. Yes, we all want success (or we wouldn't be here at WA, would we?), we all want our bills paid, to eat regularly, have a safe and warm place to live....etc. Somehow I was getting away from 'me is part of we'....our common bond as being human first...each 'human' being a small part of 'humanity'.
It troubled me because this is something the entire world is forgetting (or so it seems if you watch the news too much)....I thought of the numerous conflicts the world has today and just how better it all could be if we worked harder at being humane....to me this is human plus 'Extra'..humanE.
It troubled me because I am usually quite a compassionate person and this shift was very unsettling. I am now taking more seriously these daily inventories and their importance to the overall desired result. I am now working harder to keep tabs that I remain a human with the e in 'we' and not the e in 'me'. One step further .... humane:
human with e in 'we'....... you, but mindful and caring of everyone;
human with e in 'me'....... you, but only mindful of self
It's your life, it's your choice.

Wonderful post. It seems we all get so caught up in the 'busy'ness of life sometimes (especially during the Holidays) and worrying about all that has to get done that we do tend to forget about other's needs. I get so over whelmed sometimes that I need to relax and just breathe (so my husband says). Trying to fit 'it' all in can drain you. You make such a wonderful statement. Thanks for the reminder and the breath of fresh air. Deep breath.... now I feel better.
There is a proverb Charity begines at home .that means your near and dear ones . You will be elevated to a higher level when you consider all human beings as your near dear ones.After all we are part of a home our earth
Thanks for giving us a lot to think about. We all need to think about our humaness more and our fellow humans too.
Hey Rosie, Personal inventory is important. It is easy to get off track in a world that does it's best to distract so it can blindside you with their itinerary. We always must be problem solvers and not part of the problem.
We must recognise our humanness and not be inhuman. The golden rule applies.

Lovely Rosie - it is so easy to become self absorbed and this is a good reminder of the importance of being mindful of others.
Thank you....it is too easy and I really felt bad. Now implementing some things to help.
