2018 plans not resolutions

I read that New Year's Resolutions only last about 2 weeks, so this year I will set a plan of action for the upcoming year. I have slowly worked through most of my 2017 personal goals, but my online goals have gone nowhere.

Yes I have learnt a lot that I did not know in 2016 thanks to spending hours and hours online each week. I could have taken out shares in YouTube and Google, I feel like I am their biggest user. I think that I have joined and unsubscribed from at least 1000 email lists.

I have looked at building email lists, affiliate marketing, PLR, Amazon, shopify and other e-commerce selling, read heaps of books and tip sheets (hence the huge join/unsubscribe), watched bookoo seminars without buying the product at the end - sometimes by sitting on my hands so that they can't reach the visa.

Yet as I look to 2018 - I ask myself "Have I made up my mind yet about how to make money online". Unfortunately, the answer is no.

I have at least, because of my Wealthy Affiliate membership, started my blog and have a couple of dozen posts on it. Not that good, definitely not great prose or fantastic SEO and I don't think I have any readers yet. I send everything to my social media profiles and get a couple of likes but no-one has signed up to get my blog post sent direct to their email.

I have booked a flight to China for the Canton Fair, which I could not make last year. So I guess step one underway for Amazon. I still have no idea of what I will sell, I am hoping to get some inspiration from the trip as I 'look' at so many products.

I have started to build my social media profiles, slowly but at least have had some results. Twitter just under 2,000 followers, Facebook 400 'friends" and one page but not really anything on it, Google 100 followers, Pinterest 18 followers, YouTube 4 (even though the don't watch my terrible videos), and have just started instagram this week and have 30 followers.

Goal one - In 2018 I will continue with this trying to build relationships as I go, and build each following up so that when I do have a product to sell, I will have people to tell about it and ask (nicely) to promote for me. I will concentrate on one profile each week

Goal two - to spend one day a fortnight, walking around towns and shops looking for products to sell and taking photographs for my instagram and website portfolio. I don't have unique photos that I can use on my blog posts that actually relate to the blog topic.

Goal three - to have the first product in my Private Label range to promote within Australia and have it listed on Amazon AU and Amazon USA.

Goal four - to have one tip sheet put together to promote my blog and start to build an email list for later use.

So here's to a wonderful 2018

It sounds to me like your ready for the new new year. Like you, I'm still learning everything I can. I'm new at this and I'm still not sure what I'm doing yet, but I am trying. I did make a resolution, but I think of them more as a short term goal. I'll make sure this is one I keep. Good luck with your goals and I hope you have a happy and prosperous New Year.

Don.

Hi KerryAnn,

I have a friend undergoing Hudson’s Amazon training at present who’s agreed to offer himself up as a case study for my research.

Great bloke. Like you, he’s experimented with a few kinds of online business. No great successes, but I predict he will follow the path of others I’ve observed, and combine his learning experiences to form a successful business venture that suits his needs.

You’ve got a lot of knowledge at this point. 1000 newsletters and webinars later, and much closer to understanding what you will and won’t do! You’ve got a good list of actionable goals in this post, and I hope you achieve every one of them. :)

Hi Ivy,

I joined with Adam Hudson January this year. It is a wonderful course, I just have had to wait until this year to follow that Amazon dream (hence my trip to China).

I still had lots of questions which is why I did not stop looking for other points of view or other options as well. This research brought me to WA so I am glad I did not stop looking.

cheers
KerryAnn

Hiya. There are so many ways to go about doing business online. You’ve probably covered them all. :)

Some involve intense relationship building, and suit ‘people personalities,’ while other forms of online business can be run by owners with almost anonymous engagement.

My friend likes being involved with product design and is really hands on. He loves the giant supply chains. The trips and the warehouses suit him perfectly! Others are decidedly hands off types, and show their flair in marketing. So at this point in your learning, where do you think your personality is leaning most in e-comm?

I hope your trip to the factory expo is great fun, BTW.

I am quiet and fairly shy. Not an out-there personality. As stated in my goals, I am working towards Amazon but trying everything else around promoting it.
