I've started my website & would appreciate it if someone could give it a quick look to see if I'm still heading the right direction. With regards to my niche, which is read
Rose - I like it and you're off to a good start! Having worked to promote libraries (70% of our county residents hold library cards), I related to your key message about reading. Your point of "think the movie is good? You should read the book!" comes through loud and clear.
Now for the critique. I understand why you use the sentence "They access the part of the mind that allows us re-create the visions, the illusions, the drama that has been laid out in black and white", however, in my opinion the best writers are able to write in color. I think using the phrase "black and white" limits the potential of reading a good story.
The next paragraph has "...reading books will allow us to have a deeper vocabulary...". I think this sentence should be the present tense, remember you are writing for your audience, not yourself. You could consider changing it from "will allow" to "allows us" (connecting yourself and the reader.)
You are obviously a fan of reading so you might want to consider including some reviews of books you have read lately. New books would be preferable since many people presumably would not have read them yet and may do so based on your review. Nicely done, keep it up!
Thanks. This is exactly the feedback I was looking for. I applied the changes you suggested since they were on-point. With regard to the "black and white" reference, I was trying to allude to the printed word, since it didn't appear to work, I just simply removed the reference in full. Thanks again, it's greatly appreciated!
Hi Rose, just a quick comment...
It's a good idea to have the Catergories Widget in your sidebar but you need to create some categories and assign your posts to them for relevance.
At the moment you only appear to have Uncatergorised posts which does nothing to help your SEO. Also using categories helps you to organise your posts better.
You can Add/Edit your categories in your WP Admin.

Just a follow-up, I did end up going premium (I wrote a short blog on my feelings about it). Wish me luck & thanks for the responses.
Hey, In order to own a website and not an affiliate link, you have to have a very good idea or your own product. Just visit my profile, go through my websites and come back to me. I'll try to help you out of this uncomfortable situation. Just follow the "rules".
Rose, if you can't go premium right away then just work on creating lots of content for your site, you will be able to add affiliate links after you create enough content
The ability isn't limited to premium members but adding paid links or affiliate URLs too soon can affect how the search engines index or don't index your website. Add them too soon and Google could decide you blog is a gateway site and not index it at all which would mean no free targeted traffic and very likely no sales.
Oh, thanks for the info. Breathing a little easier now.... How long does it usually take for the link icon to become active (on average, of course)?
It should be active, you just highlight the text you want to make into a link then click the link icon and add the URL and choose if you want it to open in a new tab and click done.

I think you're heading in the right direction. Are you planning on review books or authors? Talking about a specific genre? Self-help? DIY? I'm not saying these are things you should or shouldn't do, but you want to pick something that you plan to be an expert in on your site. Just want to get your mind working in that kind of direction. Good job! Keep it up.
