What Do You Remember from the Famous 911?

Here we are at another September 11. Every year I remember and reflect on what happened, 19 years ago. The world changed irrevocably.

Now we are in another time of irrevocable change.

In 2001, I was the head of a small-town community library. I was getting ready for work when my stepdaughter phoned. It was rare for her to call so early, but she told us to turn on our computers or television and see what had happened in New York. I could hear the stress in her voice, even before I had any idea why.

But soon we knew, and life was never to be the same. What a shock it was.

I thought fast. The library would be open but with a twist. We would keep the best of our computers, a second-hand desktop the charter school next door had given us, on the news, and it would play all day. I knew people would come in seeking not only that news, but also solace and connection. Not everone in that Colorado town had the internet at home yet.

I told the other staff member working that day that our main task was to be a resource for everyone who was trying to cope with the unbelievable situation. I made sure there was a big box of tissues near the computer and another one at the front desk, and I encouraged my co-worker to talk with anyone who needed to talk.

It was a long, heart-filled day.

What about you?

Hi Rosana.
thank you for posting.

I was working as I had always. Pretty much oblivious until someone from the front said that the twin towers were burning.

I then remember some terryfing views of people actually jumpiing to their death.

It was a horrible day.

My goodness, almost 20 years ago.

Now we have yet another day.

Continue to be blessed.

Nice profile picture update.

Paul.

What I remember on that day was being woken up by my brother-in-law in the early hours of the morning to come and see what’s in tv. I was half a sleep 😴 and thought omg am I dreaming this. I froze standing up not comprehending what I was seeing. If any of our WA members lost someone, my heart and prayers go to you all.

What a great way to help others through the tragedy of that day.

I remember sitting on my neighbors couch. We were watching the morning news, as usual, and we watched as the first plane hit the first tower. When the second one hit the second tower, I remember my neighbor saying, "That wasn't an accident. That was on purpose." I don't think I will ever forget that moment.

Thanks, yes, it helped me cope with my own grief and fear.

You did well. Thinking of others often helps one cope with their own sorrow.

That was a good idea on your part. I remember 9/11 too well. I was at work as it happened and didn’t get a chance to see it. When I got home that afternoon it was all I could see on TV.

Then 30 days later was activated by the Air Force Reserve unit I was assigned to for 11 months.

This will always be in my heart for all those that died in the towers that day. However, on 9/12 was a day to remember as well for how well the entire world rallied around the U.S. and gave their support for atrocities as they occurred.

Thanks for jogging my memory on this.

I had just gotten up and was drinking coffee when the guy who mowed my lawn knocked on the door to tell me he was finished. He told me that somebody had fired a rocket at the Pentagon. I
I turned on the TV and saw the first tower burning and thought it must be a terrible accident. There was no mention of the Pentagon at that point.

Then the other plane hit the second tower and i knew it had to be terrorists. I watched in shock as the buildings collapsed knowing that there were people trapped on the upper floors. Worst of all was seeing the people who had jumped falling knowing they were still alive for only a few more seconds.

After watching for a few hours I went to the bank and withdrew a very large amount of cash. I didn' know what the hell was going to happen but I knew I might not have access to any money if I didn't. Then I bought 2000 rounds or ammo for my AR 15, 1000 rounds for my SKS and another 1000 rounds of 40 caiber ammo for my Glock pistol.

After filling the tank of my car I filled my truck tank and went and bought every 5 gallon gas container I could find and filled them all up. Then I went to a grocery store and bought a whole lot of food, especially non perishables,

I didn't think to buy a generator, Too bad. I could have used one in 2005 after Katrina and Rita. After a few weeks I put most of the money back in the bank. I didn't have to fight terrorists invading my home after all and I gave away most of the canned goods to a homeless shelter.

WOW. You did all that???? I was most intrigued by your ammo assortment. Sadly you may still need all that at some point with our current state of affairs.

Let's hope I don't but it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Very true! I am locked and loaded!😎👊
