Taxes, Scared Little Dog, Two Ambulances, and WA

Life has its ups and downs all right. From the title, you'd think I was having a rough time but things are fine. I'll explain.

TAXES

For many years I have usually done both our business taxes and our personal ones. The past few years, I take them to our accountant to look over when I'm done. So yesterday I did that. He raced through them, found one new question on a form that I had answered incorrectly, and refused to let me pay him anything. Okay by me! I celebrated by going across the street from his office to the best bakery in town and getting a loaf of fresh sourdough bread to take home.

SCARED DOG

This morning we had a date to take both our dogs to our veterinarian for vaccinations and checkups. One of our dogs took it all in stride but our little Sheltie-Papillion hated being in the vet's office.

He did have a rough start in life, being born in a puppy mill, sent to a pet store in a mall, purchased by a woman who knew nothing about dogs, sold on Craigslist to someone with a wild child, and sent to a Sheltie rescue where the other dogs didn't like him much.

He was finally found by us several years ago, when he was about three. He's since been adored and fussed over by me, I admit it. (That's not a picture of him at the top of this post but I think it's a Papillion, half his lineage.) Anyway, our usual veterinarian is a tall talkative man, and our little dog is afraid of such people. So the minute he realized where we were, he started trembling. I held him or petted him but it didn't really help.

Luckily, that clinic has a new veterinarian who saw us today. She was very gentle with him and gave him a few treats. He stopped trembling. Whew! He will have to go back in a couple of weeks for dental surgery but I'm the one thinking about that, not him.

WHY TWO AMBULANCES?

Our town always sends out two ambulances when someone calls for help of that sort. I have never understood quite why, but one comes from the fire department and one from the hospital. Our next-door neighbor called 911 today, and off she went to the hospital. She has had ongoing health issues, and it sounds like this one isn't too serious, from what we learned from her family.

I must digress and tell my favorite two-ambulance story. Just over a year ago, I had the flu. Finally one night I felt well enough to get in our hot tub out back with my husband. I stayed and stayed. Bliss! But I stayed too long. When I went inside through the laundry room, I dropped my towel, slumped to the floor with no clothes on, and fainted. My hubby found me there and couldn't rouse me. A bad moment for him. He called 911 and sure enough two ambulances came, each with two or three men. I did wake up and immediately noticed them. They wanted to take me to the hospital but I insisted that they put me in bed to see how I was. I lay there, chortling at the situation that I was nude under the covers and encircled by rather good-looking men of various ages. I chatted with them enough that they could see I was okay, and they went off. Extra bonus: I didn't realize it at the time but because they didn't transport me, there was no charge. I do like to tell that story when I get a chance.

AND FINALLY WA

I just had a thought about our community here at WA. Social life here in my town may be somewhat diminished if the coronavirus gets here or is suspected of doing so. Hey, no problem, I've got a ready-madecommunity called WA!
