So Glad I Kept My Old Computer Mouse with Wires

Recently I "upgraded" from Windows 10 to 11. I put quotes around the word because it was not a happy experience. Even after I took my laptop to a shop, nobody could install my Bluetooth mouse. It had worked perfectly with Windows 10.

I am not a fan of the trackpad, also called the touchpad. In all my years, I have hardly ever used one. But for the past few days, I had little choice. I could use one or I could put my fingertips on the screen. Well, my fingers often hit the wrong thing. All in all, it was an exercise in frustration.

This morning I was talking on the phone with my sister, and she said she hasn't used a cordless mouse. She much prefers one with a cord. So as soon as we hung up, I dug around in my office closet and found a wired mouse I bought maybe five years ago. I plugged it into a USB port and...

BINGO! I have a working mouse again! I am one happy camper. Now I can get more work done around here.

What kind of mouse do you use, if any?

UPDATE:

Here is my current setup, with my rose-colored external keyword working via Bluetooth, my wired mouse not quite vitisble on its dark pad, and my laptop on a support stand.

I switched to a wireless mouse and keyboard and the mouse stopped working, so, like you, I dug out my old wired mouse and have been using it ever since. While I don't like the fact that it takes up two USB ports it is reliable, so I stick with it.

I have a mouse and find if much easier than a track pad. Just never got on with them. I keep spares as well as having one each for mg laptops and desk top. They are Bluetooth but I also have a wired one in case. I shall avoid wi does 11 until most of the problems are ironed out.

I use a wireless mouse that has a little plug-in sensor that goes in a USB port. I have three of these and they work very well on my three computers, Rosana! The devices themselves use one AA battery, and they cost me about $8 ea, about 2.5 years ago.

I’ve never heard about the mouse problem with win 11, but glad you got it sorted.

I still have all my old computers, cords and mice as well. The old mouse provides good control and is so easy to use. Makes me wonder why they have to keep making things "easier" when oftentimes they are not. Glad you found a solution.

I know what you mean, Susan! "Improvements" are not always so.

That is so true, Jeff!

Thanks, Susan! I change after a few iterations, but not every time because it is counterproductive and they are only trying to make more money, IMHO.

Completely agree...I'll wait a while until after the "newness" wares off and the price drops lol.

That's what I do, Susan! For instance, I picked up a new sealed box of Dragon talk to text software, Version 12, with headphones and mic for under $40. The newest versions are in high triple digits. It always pays to wait, and in many cases. if there are bugs in something, they have already been addressed!
