In the Top 100 for Two Days So Far
Being in the top 100 here was not something I aimed for... well, not until a few days ago. But when I found myself at 107, then at 105, I thought that it would be fun to get under a hundred. I mean, I did get a thrill when I got into the top 200.
And that is when my computer began acting up. Its speed was about a tenth of normal. I was going to call our local computer guy and see about taking the laptop in, but my husband suggested I try an app he likes called Glary Utilities. He told me it had sped up his Windows 10 computer several times. My laptop is older, Windows 8.1, but I decided to give it a try. Yesterday I ran the app and things did seem a little better. Today I bought the paid version, not expensive and on half-price sale (or is that something they always do? Dunno). I went though everything.
Yikes, I had 17 programs that needed updating so I spent most of today updating them. While I waited, I cleaned out some paper files and did a coloring book page. And now I don't think I will need to go to our local geek, not this week at least. This is not a promotion for the program.. there may well be other similar ones. But the laptop seems to be purring.
So here I am, back at WA, and still at 98 for the second day. Tra la!
How did I get here? I do write quite a frew comments on other people's WA blog posts, and I tend to make my comments funny, useful, or off the wall. I never just say "great post." And I've been doing more blogging lately too.
Will I stay under 100? Remains to be seen. I can do my part. What will my computer do?

Nice result on the computer. Glary Utilities is popular with a good reputation and should be able to keep your laptop optimised.
System Mechanic was another one I used to use that was very helpful in speeding things up.

I always thought it was 'Gary's Utilities' and was most put out when I realised the error of my ways.

That's great, you have obviously been working very hard, keep up the good work.
A quick bit of advice to you, I will try and upgrade your computer if it is not working efficiently. It's difficult and frustrating to run an online business with a slow computer.
It's definitely worth paying a bit more money and purchasing a computer with a decent spec, the benefits are amazing.

I have found my computer speed has dropped dramatically since Covid 19 entered the world.
Maybe it's because so many people are at home, and working from home at the moment.
I do most of my work on my mobile phone. It's so much faster then my PC.

I have just read your comment, I am surprised, I haven't noticed any difference in my computer speed, my laptop and desktop work absolutely fine!
In the best possible way, I can't think of anything much worse than trying to run an online business from a mobile phone. I avoid using my smart phone as much is possible as I find it so much quicker using a desktop or laptop. I even have text messages come through to my PC, including WhatsApp.
There must be something seriously wrong with your PC if you can work quicker on a mobile phone Jim. I would seriously look into this Jim as she must be losing valuable time when you're working on your online business.
Just out of interest Jim, are you using Windows 10?

You need a new computer Or you could get somebody to partition the drive and install some version of Linux on the partition. Much more stable than Windows and less likely to get a virus. Just make sure it wears a mask.
I've messed with Linux before, think I will stay with Windows. This laptop does have a faster drive added on.

I think Carson had an article back a while ago about the actions a member at Wealthy Affiliate can perform to increase their ranking.
Writing WA articles and commenting on other articles definitely increases your ranks.
Best wishes on your computer staying together. I bumping along with Windows 7. I sure I will have to upgrade one day to Windows 10, but dread the "learning process "and sorting out the new system..

I'm not really trying to improve my ranking. So far it has happened naturally. I don't want to go answer newbies' questions from the sidebar; I prefer to connect with people I've at least met a little.
Oh, Windows 10? No hurry to do that either.
