How I Comment on Your Blog Posts, and Why I Do It Like That

First I should admit that I almost never comment on the you-can-do-it pep talks that are common here. I don't usually even finish reading them... I can turn that kind of writing out endlessly myself. But every day there are some blog posts or trainings (the classrooms of Israel17 stand out) that I get something practical from. There are other blog posts that I rarely skip because they are so much fun... Twack comes to mind here.

But this is about comments, not blog posts. Often at the end of a thoughtful post the writer asks for our take on the subject. But usually most of the replies are along the lines of saying what a great post it was. In other words, the comments are pretty bland.

If I write a reply -- and I often don't -- but if I do, I answer their question or otherwise comment on the topic. Ropesa, I think it was, did a post today on how useful videos are on Pinterest. I haven't tried that and probably will, so my comment addressed that. Twack said today that he was TRYING to be useful, so I replied he wasn't just TRYING, he was BEING. So I go for real conversation.

By the time I go through all the blog posts that have come into my email and seem interesting to me, I start getting replies to some of my comments. That's fun, and shows me that this approach works. Give it a try!

It has been said previously that leaving comments such as 'Great post' is of no value. I must say I agree with that, which means I agree with what you say in your post, Rosana.

Leaving quality comments can be very time-consuming for some people. I am one of those! Therefore, I don't participate in commenting as much as I would like to.

Hi RosanaHart,
WOW! I was just thinking about that same issue last night. I commented on some websites the other day and I wanted REAL feedback on my website. I do understand how important it is to practice your courtesy and being nice to people. The true is we’re in business.

I, personally, want real practical CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM about what I can do to help make this website better. There is a good way to give constructive criticism without offending anyone. We should be more objective in our comments on others website.

In other words, give them valuable information, directions to who, what, where (not fluffed nice words). Thank you for addressing this issue.

To Your Success,

Hi Rosana, I admire your honesty. You have commented on some of my favorite's. Twack, Israel and Rose. If I were to list them all it would be never ending. Here at WA I really feel blessed by the community. It is one of the main reasons that keeps me a member of WA.

All the very best,
Michael

I totally agree with you, Michael!

Jeff

Always grateful for a mention, thank you. You have 'hit the nail on the head' so to speak. It is something I had planned to post about in the coming weeks, as it is something I totally agree with.
Creating an engaging comment that invites a dialogue is something I strive for wherever possible.
If nothing else, it shows that you have read and understood the post, at least to some extent.
Also, there's nothing wrong with being an old hippie.

Nothing wrong with being an old hippie! Of COURSE not! Oh, I see you are doing the same thing... hahaha

That's the great thing about WA, you get to decide just how involved you want to be
The training in particular is incredible.
I love all facets of this platform, both the social and educational interactions.
Fortunately we are all different, or how boring would life be.
Jim
