Do You Have Any Famous Family?

If you have famous family, how has it affected you? Parents, siblings, anyone you know or knew whose lives impacted yours?

This is on my mind because I'm wrapping up the third book of my series of short memories, and the fourth one will have the title of Science Fiction Daughter. I haven't chosen the subtitle yet. I have begun thinking a lot about my father, who was a science fiction writer of some fame, until he died young (age 53) in the sixties. I have an old website about him which I will be updating too...it needs it badly.

When I first began the site, for a few years I had a forum on it, and I got a surprising number of comments along the lines of "Lucky you, it must have been wonderful to be his daughter." Not entirely, folks, how would you like to live with an extremely talkative person with one of the most bizarre minds you'd ever encountered? But there were benefits too. It will be an absorbing book to write...

And it's got me wondering if others here have reflections on famous people in their families. Or bizarre ones who never got to fame?

My husband's family founded and owned the Stetson hat factory in Kansas City. Sadly the company was sold in the 60s, long before I joined the family. However, what's cool is, Stetson Hats always sends us cool stuff to give away at our family reunions. Anyway, I always get asked about it when people hear my last name.

My husband gets asked about it way more. People used to ask him if that was his real name. Uh.....yea!?!

Awesome, one of the best hats ever made. My dad was a Police officer in Wallace Texas at one point and they issued them all Stetson Resistalls for bad weather and dress caps. You couldn't destroy them.

Hi Rosana.

My mum was the first female editor of a national newspaper in the whole of Africa (Theresa Ogunbiyi and after marriage, Theresa Bowyer). She was a bit of a dragon, even if I do say so myself, and went to the war front during the Biafra-Nigeria civil war.

She was invited to Israel by PM Golda Meir and helped re-establish Nigerian–Israeli cooperation, which had suffered during the civil war. Many other things too, but those are stories for another time.

Regards,

She sounds pretty amazing!

Awesome. Quite a handful too as a mother. Two strong personalities, one household... But there's no getting away from it, your mum is your mum, and that's the long and short of it. Still miss her.

I bet she is looking on you as an author with total pride Great story.

.
Fingers crossed.
Thank you, Rosana. Have a lovely weekend.

Hi Tayo, I read this comment yesterday about your amazing mother, so I googled her name and some great photos came up. I very much enjoyed reading about her impressive accomplishments! From people's glowing comments about her online it sounds like she was also a lovely and charming person. Setting the bar very high in your family, and you are continuing the tradition! :)

Hello, k.

How very kind of you to say. Yes, my mother was certainly a unique individual. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she isn't up there right now running the show (to the chagrin, no doubt, of more laid-back individuals, lolz).

I wish you a happy, carefree and fun-filled week. 👍

I didn't say that though I could have. MineThatBird said it...

I think our relatives in the next world have their hands full these days! Once some time after my father died I dreamt that he told me that his work in the next world included amplifying the positive energy of the thoughts that we living ones have.

.
Oh dear. Then my poor mother must be cursing me something awful for the grill I'm pushing her through at the moment. (oopsie)

PS. Mistake repaired...

Just a few local and state politicians. Boring.

If you could have heard my grandfathers stories of his days on the railroad, this had to be from back in the early 1900's you would have thought he was famous. We loved to sit and listen it just amazed me what he had done in his life. Now that I think about it there must be a book in there somewhere, kind of a take off of Huckleberry Finn.

When people can tell a good story, it all comes tolife so much more.

Yes, but not someone we dare name! He was a mob boss many years ago...
He now sleeps with the fishes:D

And I hope that isn't why you left the US!

I have famous ancestors, but my family members are infamous.

Like the song says my inlaws are outlaws

Hahaha!

My nephew was a world-class rock climber.

OR ARE YOU FAMOUS? Meant to ask that too!

Hi - my boyfriend is the lead guitarist and songwriter for a heavy metal band, which he formed in 1979. Those who are not familiar with the genre will not have heard of him, but he is well-known in our local area, and the band has fans from all over the world. He has written the material for several albums, which are highly sought-after.

I actually enjoy basking in his reflected fame, and now run their Facebook page and promote the band, designing posters, negotiating gigs and selling CDs. Living the rock and roll dream!

Rock on 🎸

What's the band name?

Hi Glen - they are called Sparta (not to be confused with an American band of the same name).

My Uncle John and Aunt Viola were champion archers, John was the guy who shot the apple off the head of the kid in William Tell and the arrow through arrow on the original Target commercial. I am the Youngest Town Councilman in Arizona History and my dad did paint work on the Snowman's truck for Smokey and the Bandit
