Cleaning Up the Office: One of My First Resolutions

That's part of my office in the photo there. It's only a small sample but you get the idea of what the whole place looks like now, in the morning. Maybe I will get far enough along to show a nicer photo before dinner. Today's dinner if I'm lucky.

The cat is supervising me, when she isn't keeping an eye on the ravens outside. Gotta ramble on in a Twackish way here for a moment and report that ravens have amazing emotions and intelligence. Since we moved here 4 years ago, I've read several books and websites on corvids. I even made notes for an apocalyptic novel where a raven and an old lady become telepathic friends. Of course the old lady is modeled on me.

But I digress. So far this morning I have taken everything off my antique desk (not shown in the photos) and wiped it down, thereby discovering that the cat spends more time to the left of the laptop than to the right. I learned that by the locations of tiny bits of cat litter. Since I am left-handed I wasn't really surprised. She likes to sit by my mouse.

Now I have my desk back. I actually keep it very sparsely furnished, room for whatever papers I might need, my perpetual cup of English Breakfast tea (despite being an American), a small clipboard with attached pen, my computer glasses, and a paperweight for when the window is open in warmer seasons.

But I am procrastinating. I would always rather write than tidy up. Under the cat you see one of my main projects for the day, to see if hubby and I can fix the antique printer which acts up regularly. To its left you see my coloring pens for another project of mine, creating coloring books. None up for sale yet.

Time to get back to cleaning and organizing.

Right. Now.

UPDATE NEXT DAY: Found a printer I thought would be good on Amazon but then I noticed it would be 2 to 4 weeks for delivery. So this morning I drove to the nearby Walmart and found an inexpensive Canon printer-scanner. Not yet set up but will be soon. (I'm finally getting over an ear infection that has sapped my strength.)

As for the photo at the top of this page, it still looks the same in that part of the room Oh well, bit by bit. My honey is about to leave for 2 weeks in Hawaii, helping one of his sisters build a deck.

Oh, yes, writing is much nicer than tidying up. Would you please come and do my office next? And, good on ya for going after a New Year's resolution.

Your location sounds marvelous, but ONE office is enough for this year!

Oh, sigh! I guess I am stuck with the job.

Sometimes I have to stop and say ..”clean this up before you do another thing....”
Decluttering hells us think more clearly

Agreed! No matter the new project I must start in a tidy environment.
I make a huge mess of anything! When writing and researching I'm surrounded by notebooks and books!
When doing any glass work, I'm trained to put all things away after I'm finished, otherwise... I will look at the chaos for sometimes weeks before beginning another...Thus the "unfinished full platter" feeling, and the guilt!
Making a list of those little things, gets me moving quickly!
Busy folks tend to clutter, or so it appears!

We all have to do this sometime. I must admit that I feel a fantastic sense of accomplishment when my space, whichever one, is clean. Thanks for the post.

Yes, I do too enjoy the sense of order.

I strongly recommend the KonMari Method. I used it and cleaned out so much stuff. It also breaks it down so you have a plan and you don't feel overwhelmed. You don't want to just create piles that look neat. Good Luck.

I did use it for a while in another part of the house, but I don't actually agree with her attitude that you should only keep things that bring you joy. Hmm, maybe I will do a blog post about that sometime.
