In my recent post here I told that I got a warning on YouTube because of the video with the title, "How to Download YouTube Videos (5 EASY Ways!)"

I've learned all those 5 ways from other people's YouTube videos that are still public on YouTube. You'll find them searching "How to Download YouTube Videos" and you'll see that some of those videos have got millions of views.

My video was 100% original and I didn't show any clips from other people's videos.

I Appealed the Decision

After receiving the warning I immediately submitted an appeal and explained that I don't encourage people to do anything that would be against YouTube rules and that I gave a disclaimer that Before you download or use anything, be sure to check that it’s legal to do so.

On top of that, there are MANY videos showing on YouTube at this very moment with the similar title and content "How to Download YouTube Videos".

It feels completely unfair that other channels were able to publish those videos but my video received a warning.

Appeal Rejected

YouTube didn't accept the appeal and the warning remains on my channel because of that.

I'm really sorry that happened and if I would have known that beforehand, I wouldn't have published the video in the first place.

Obviously, I didn't know that it's against YouTube rules to publish a video with the title "How to Download YouTube Videos" because there are MANY channels creating those videos all the time.

I just thought that the video would be really helpful for millions of people since on other channels "How to Download YouTube Videos" videos have generally become viral and received a HUGE number of views.

Learning Experience 1: YouTube Is Unfair

As we can see from my example, YouTube doesn't treat all channels in the same way.

They allow other (bigger?) channels to do certain things that other (smaller?) channels aren't allowed to do.

They have obviously all the right to do so but it's not nice of course. At least I expected that all channels would have the same rules but it doesn't seem to be so.

Learning Experience 2: If Another Channel Is Creating Some Types Videos, You May Not Be Allowed to Do The Same

My logic went like, "There are hundreds, probably thousands of videos showing how to download YouTube videos" so there's probably nothing wrong with creating my own version.

That's logic might apply somewhere else but not on YouTube.

As we learned from my experience, rules aren't the same for all channels.

You'll don't want to risk getting your channel shut down from YouTube. You always want to stay on the safe side.

Read and re-read YouTube rules before thinking about publishing a video. Then ask their chat support if you have any concerns.

Learning Experience 3: YouTube Doesn't Enforce Their Rules Always

After getting the warning, I spent a few moments chatting with YouTube support.

I found out that YouTube doesn't enforce its rules in many cases, or the rules aren't clear.

For example, they told me that translating your videos to different languages and adding a voiceover would be against the rules.

Well, in less than 5 minutes, I could show you 100's videos on YouTube that are doing that. Usually, big channels with 100,000's subscribers are doing that.

I find it very strange.

I'm just wondering if the YouTube support person didn't understand their rules correctly OR if all those huge channels are breaking the rules and YouTube simply doesn't care.

If you have more information, please, let us know in the comments!

I hope that sharing my experience will help you to avoid getting a YouTube warning.

If you have ANY information or experiences about these topics, please, share with us in the comments below so everyone will benefit!

..

PS. Because of the warning, now YouTube has removed ALL the chapters from ALL of my videos. I asked about that from the support and they said that the chapters will NEVER be added again on my channel... Pretty strict!

PPS. On a positive note, I'm soon reaching 100,000 subscribers and I'll be receiving the first YouTube plaque soon! Woohoo!

Hi Roope,

I am soory to hear about your incident with YouTube. However, you live and you learn. In life, we sometimes have to encounter unfair situations. Look at the greater good - you still have you channel. I hope that you do not encounter such unfair situation in the future.

Have a great day! Wishing you the very best!

Kind regards,
Nichola

It is unfair and trying to get them to admit they were wrong will be difficult.
Wishing you well Roope and my life became a lot easier in all areas when someone told me that life isn't fair, I find it hard to accept at times but it's true.

Rick

Sorry to hear that YouTube did that to you. It may be that the rate you were growing was a threat to one of their favorites. Your next endeavor you will have more information and experience to work with. Just a suggestion, I have no idea if it would work, take a screen shot of the supposed rules violations and include it in your appeal. You may want to also give examples of other channels that are violating the same rules and ask for fairness under their own guidlines.

Hey Roope, sorry to hear that the arbitrary YouTube rules had been applied to your video. It IS unfair. The reason it is unfair is that there are a lot of vids on YouTube that are morally repugnant but remain, and yet the helpful vids like yours get zapped.

I am having an issue with a particular individual at the moment who posts regular YouTube vids, but most are very misleading and some are just blatant lies. They remain up. I know several people who have reported him but it doesn't seem to make any difference to YouTube. He is Teflon coated.

All you can do is keep plugging away. Just make sure you don't get Copyright Strikes, as YouTube can potentially kill your channel stone dead. Again, this person I speak of seems to made of Teflon. If only they'd just apply the rules fairly to everyone.

Dave

Thanks for sharing this update and sorry to hear they did not accept your appeal.

Very strange they remove the chapters because of this. Sometimes the decisions of these big companies just do not make sense.

As I shared in your previous post about this, in my experience, the people working for the chat support does not seem to know anything else than just share link to their terms they do not really know themselves. When trying to get them to clarify terms, they have never been able to.

It definitely is frustrating and I also still have the warning on my channel I got more than a year ago and still do not fully understand why I got a warning when there are so many other videos with the same topic.

It has also made me more careful which is definitely a good learning experience and happy they at least give these warnings and do not just ban as FB does. But still a bit scary not to be able to get more info and so strange how it seems some channels can outright lie in every single video without ever getting banned and then they give warnings to others that are honest.

Anyway, congratulations on soon reaching the 100K - that is truly a great achievement.
