When I joined Wealthy Affiliate, I didn't even know what affiliate marketing means.
What inspired me to join this platform was the banner on Nathaniell's website saying, "Earn money selling other people's products on Amazon" or something like that.
I've also noticed that many other newcomers don't understand what affiliate marketing means and some people may get scared when seeing the word marketing.
Also other words related to making money online may be new: blogging, vlogging, freelance writing, Google SEO, etc. Really confusing for a beginner, right?
That's why I've decided to often use simpler words that everyone can understand.
Keep it simple
With affiliate marketing, you earn money when people click your link. So, the main action that you need to do to earn money is to copy-paste a link. Below are other easy definitions I've come up with.
Make money copy-pasting links online = Affiliate marketing
Make money moving your mouth = Make money on YouTube
Make money moving your fingers (no need to show your face, no need to talk to anyone directly, just move your fingers) = Make money Blogging
The main training in Wealthy Affiliate teaches how to make money blogging
Make money moving your money = Investing
Easy money apps = Apps that give you money for watching videos, clicking buttons, answering questions, etc. (easy = something that even a 7-year-old child could do)
My wife is doing network marketing. She mostly makes money with Instagram & WhatsApp. Network marketing sounds intimidating for a lot of people so I came up with a simpler definition for that one too.
Make money chatting with your friends on WhatsApp = Network marketing
The idea with these definitions is to help people to understand that they can too earn money. They already have the abilities that are required for earning money = Moving fingers, moving your mouth, chatting on WhatsApp, etc.
My favorite line on my YouTube channel is,
"I'll show you this for you in so easy way that even your 98-year-old grandmother who has never even seen a smartphone will be able to do this after watching this video!" :D
Can You Come Up with More Definitions?
I use those 5 definitions above quite regularly on my YouTube videos because they're targeted for beginners who want to start earning money online even without any prior experience.

One of the terms I often use is, "are you utilising the power of the Internet" and "I can see the power and the potential of the Internet".
One of the reasons I use the above quotes is the fact that many people just do not understand what can be achieved online or have a clue what it's about! Your blog post would certainly makes it much easier for new members to understand what Internet marketing is all about.

As a fella who loves things to be simple, I love your approach. I'd rephrase the "Make money moving your fingers" part though. That could be misunderstood as many women do make money by moving their fingers on numerous websites. While I understand what you meant, I can also see how search engines - the ones that are not filtering out adult content - can sort that line.
