Argh, Don't do THIS! ;)

This post is just a quick reminder so the same doesn't happen to you that just happened to me! :D

I just spent 40 minutes recording 2 YouTube videos to my channel.

After that I noticed that during that whole time my microphone was OFF and only the laptop's mic was recording that has a completely awful sound quality.

Before recording I quickly checked the microphone and I was like, "Yeah, there's some sound. Should be working!" But I didn't bother to check which mic it is.

So, please, don't do the same mistake! Always remember to DOUBLE-CHECK that the right mic is recording when you are doing YouTube videos.

Another "mistake" that I made before a couple of times was that I had written a text and I was supposed to copy-paste it to another place on my computer.

Instead of pushing CTRL + C (=copy), I pushed CTRL + X (=cut). Then I got distracted and copied also some other text.

When I was about to paste the original text, it had disappeared into the cyber-space and I had lost it.

Howver, after repeating the same mistake probably 3-5 times, I think I have finally learned that it's better to use CTRL + C instead of CTRL + X always when copying the text.

Very simple things, of course, but you don't want to waste 30 minutes writing something and then losing the text.

Also, a good way to avoid losing any text is to always type in some cloud like Google Docs, Wealthy Affiliate or Wordpress that auto-saves it.

If you are not connected to the Internet and you have written a long text, you can save it to 2 places so if you accidenatelly delete the other one, at least the other one remains (Again, I speak from experience of losing a text when I saved it only in 1 place and deleted it accidenatelly, LOL!)

That's all for today. Just a quick reminder. :)

Would be fun to hear from you.

OMG Roope, the same thing happened to me the first time I wrote my first blog, it was so frustrating. I learned my lesson and now I type out the draft in MS Word and save it before I make any edits. Every couple of times I make a few edits, I do Ctrl-S to save the file once I've named it. Now, I just copy and paste it when needed. Thank you also for the info regarding the microphone. Getting ready to do my first couple of videos and I will remember your advice. Hope you are well. 😊

That's good! :) Even better is probably Google Docs because it saves the text automatically time after time.

Will remember. Thank you.

Great words of advice! I’ve actually had both of those things happen to me too! Very frustrating ... Now I use Google Dics for my draft... then I have a backup. LOL

Yeah, Google Docs is great for avoiding this!

Thank you. These are excellent points to remember before I start my first video

Yep :)

We feel for you, Roope, but we are sure most of your readers will have experienced something similar on more than one occasion. Autosave is a real boon.

Yep! After I repeated the same mistake a couple of times, I was like, "Hmmm... There must be a way to avoid making this same mistake again!" Lol

I remember writing a long piece of text and then there was an electricity blackout. And Office complained about how it cannot recover file. Cool!

Ouch! That's why I'd always recommend wrtiting in a cloud online that saves the text automatically.

How frustrating! I had a friend shoot an entire wedding with no film in her camera.

Whoa! That is like taking this to the next level! :O

Argh, how can you make these 2 mistakes!!

Lol, thanks for sharing this post on taking care of smaller things while doing bigger tasks. πŸ™‚

Good lessons learnt here I think, thanks

Yeah, failures can teach some good lessons :D

Great ideas and advice that is so sad when it bleeps. It happens to me sometimes too but I do not know all the command prompts via touch screen as there are no control buttons, so I just hold down for the menu. I still have done that on touch screen and made me want to screech like your model in the picture. It is frustrating losing your work. My Lilah helped me make a screamcast on it. Lol!! Good words of advice. I thank you very much.
Kind Regards,
Nurse Becca

Thanks for sharing Becca! :D
