5 POWERFUL Tips to Build Trust (from Kyle's Lesson)

I've gone through most of Kyle's Premium+ Classes and they've been great.

Usually, I take notes so the advice drills deeper into my mind and I'll be able to implement those in my own business.

I decided to share with you some of my notes that I took during Kyle's Class about Building Likability & Trust With Your Content.

Kyle shows also real-life examples but I wrote down just the main principles. In this post, I also add some of my own insights so not all of these are directly from Kyle's lesson.

This lesson was a part of his Copywriting series and focused on building trust which is one of the most important factors of any business.

Powerful Principle

If people like you, they will DO what you say.
If people don’t like
you, they will NOT DO what you say.

If people like you, they
will DO what you recommend.
If people don’t like you, they will NOT DO what you say.

Practical example:

Which person's recommendation would you rather follow?

1) Your best friend who recommends his favorite restaurant.

2) A drunk person who walks towards you in the street who recommends his favorite restaurant.

Obviously, you're much more likely to follow your friend's recommendation because you like him. Even though you don't have any guarantees that his recommendation would be even better.

We follow people's advice who we like.

1. Know What People Want & Need

  • Ask questions from your audience
  • Read industry-related forums
  • Listen to feedback

=> You can communicate to them directly and more effectively.

When people feel that you understand them and you "talk their language", they’ll like and trust you more.

For example, when we went to buy luggage recently a salesperson started asking questions such as:

  • What are you looking for?
  • How big luggage do you want?
  • What kinds of luggage do you need?

After hearing our answers, the salesperson was able to recommend the perfect luggage that we ended up buying.

Compare to a salesperson who immediately would start selling luggage that is the best in his opinion without asking & listening.

  1. Ask
  2. Listen
  3. Help

If you have for example a YouTube channel as I do, you can ask people to share their thoughts in the comments below.

The more specific call-to-actions you give to your audience, the more likely they're gonna respond to you. As a result, you can improve based on your audience's needs.

2. Tell a Story/Example

Stories are ultra-powerful.

All the greatest speakers, salespersons, business owners and even religious leaders used stories. Stories move people.

Let me know which one sounds more convincing:

  1. People are losing 1,000’s kilos in total using this weight loss program. Start now!
  2. See how Jane lost 10 kilos and is now in the best shape of her life.

The first one sounds too abstract. It's hard for people to relate to that.

But if you are a woman who wants to lose weight, after seeing another woman doing the same, it becomes much more relatable. Of course, the stories should be relevant to your audience.

If you'd be selling to a man, it might be better to show a success story of a man.

3. Be Available & Reply to People

  • Enable comments on your blog, YouTube channel and social media profiles.
  • Encourage people to leave comments. Ask specific questions.
  • Reply to people's comments.

People see that you’re responsive and that you care.

Practical Example:

Once I left a comment on a YouTube channel that I was following. The creator never replied and he never replies to comments that people leave him.

=> I don't see any reason to comment on his channel anymore.

I commented on another channel where the creator often replies. He also replied to my comment.

=> I like this creator more and I feel more inclined to follow his content.

Comments also boost your rankings and more people will see your content as a result.

Personally, I always encourage people to leave comments on my YouTube channel and the engagement has been really good recently.

4. Leverage Videos

  • Shareable
  • Builds trust

Video consumption is increasing dramatically year by year.

Note: You don’t need to create videos yourself if you don't want to.

5. The More You Know, The More Credible You become

Which one of these persons would you trust on travel advice:

  1. A person who has never been abroad.
  2. A person like me who has traveled to 40+ countries.
The more knowledge you acquire within your industry, the easier it will be to build trust with your audience.

That being said, you obviously don't need to be an expert when you start. In fact, everyone starts from 0.

But as the months and years go by, you'll knowledge will expand and it will be easier for you all the time. People will come to you for advice rather than your new competitors, for example.

Every Premium+ lesson that I've watched has been well worth the time. I've learned tips that I can immediately put into practice.

For example, my typing speed increased probably a minimum of 50% after watching Kyle's lesson. That's HUGE!

I'll definitely keep on studying Premium+ Classes regularly. In my experience, they give almost an immediate boost to my online business.

That's why I can warmly recommend it to you as well.

The next series that I'll be studying is Optimizing Your Business for 5x Efficiency.

If you want that I'll share some of my notes here in the WA Blog, let me know in the comments.

Roope, as always you make some great points here.

To answer your question on training - I have completed all core training, some of it more than once, and still go back and read/watch things again that I feel like I could use more clarification on.

One of the issues with people listening and buying from one person over another is the perception of trust - and part of that is established by building authority over time and gaining trust by sharing lots of VALUE for free as you know and as you do.

On the commenting thing - there is where I am beginning to struggle myself. I would love to reply to every single person on every single platform every time - but that has already become an impossible task that gets more and more difficult as my business grows.

The only thing I know to do is to begin making more effort to respond in podcast episodes and address blocks of questions and comments all at one time (even then it will never be all of them!).

I am very curious as to how other people handle these things as they get more and more students, readers, listeners, viewers, subscribers, group members, etc.

Thanks for the info and I look forward to your next post!

Best regards,

L.D. Sewell

Thanks for sharing your notes on Kyle’s lessons. Great advice here.

Spot on Roope although I have had some spot on eating out recommendations from drunk people in my time.. but that's another story. A great read, Phil

Good point! :D

Your usual awesome post Roope!
Great information.
Joe

I'm glad you enjoyed Joe

Always Roope.
Joe

My takeaways Roope is that I need to understand my customer's pain/ challenges and find solutions for them. The only way to do that is to get into their space and to communicate with them. I can then develop stories that resonate with my audience. And lastly I can create offers that will solve the problems aforementioned and close sales.

Hugh

Great takeaways Hugh!
