I arrived in Shanghai on May 23 and will spending most of my time in Guangzhou, Zhengzhou, Sanya, Yantai and Hong Kong until my return to Edmonton, Alberta on July 5. I lived in China from 2000 to 2014 and notice some big differences.

1. The one that affects me the most is the lack of gmail and all google services. One does not realize how much they rely on google search. There always were Virtual Private Networks, but in 2018 they have even cracked down on them more severely. I was presently surprise to be able to access Wealthyaffilate.com and publish this bog from Guangzhou even if I am having challenges to add photos.

2. Prices of everything have increased very noticeable, especially the cost of a home.

3. The infrastructure in terms of subways, freeways, airports and high speed trains has surpassed anything I have experienced in North America.

4. Everyone has cellphone in front of them and pays their bills with it. It seems like only foreigners like me use the local cash.

Typical scene in a train station or on the subway in Guangzhou

5. Members of my wife’s family have all quickly become richer because of increasing home prices and better salaries. They all now have new cars and travel.

Too me the choice of food is fantastic and I always feel totally safe. The biggest negative is that it is just too crowded especially on the subways and buses. I will be happy to get back to Edmonton even though it will feel like a gost city for the first while.

I am looking forward to my time in Macau and Hong Kong when I can catch up on my WA gmail messages.

Hi Roger,
Your blog is inspiring, so I think I'll spend this year's vacation to Hong Kong and Guangzhou.
Cheers,
Usiba.

Good Morning Roger,

Personally, I think that to be able to travel is one of the highlights of one's life.
I have never been to China and really would like a trip there one day.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

You most certainly should make the trip to China one day. You’ll never regret it

Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your time and all the best to you.

Thanks for the kind thoughts!

Interesting post Roger, thanks for sharing, Best Alan

The world over here is very different and easy to write about.

Hi, Roger.
Paul here from Ontario, Canada.

I trust you are well. I see that you are having an enjoyable time.

Listen,
While you are there, see if you can find out a little bit more about the 'Ghost' cities that have been built more inland there.

I will catch up with you when you get back. Also get some thoughts and perspectives about BTC.

Be safe.

Kindest regards,

Paul.

Chinese plan for the distant future and there are still millions of rural people who want to move to the cities. Homes are waiting for them!

China may have put the blocks on decentralized crypto exchanges but it is full steam ahead for digital money and block chain technology.

I feel safer here than I do in certain areas of Canadian cities.

Roger

Hi, Roger.
Thanks for the reply.

Regarding the 'Ghost Cities' of China, there is 'Conspiracy Theory'
based on climate control but I will not go there at this time.

Digital Currency and Blockchain Technology cannot be stopped.

Have fun, enjoy your time away and express my regards to those that are close to you and of like mind.

Always a pleasure.

Paul.

Info on other cultures is always fascinating and a joy to read.

Glad you enjoyed the bog!

Interesting how they interact with other people also. I am from the US and since this is global I enjoy reading about other countries also.

Tried and True

Elaine

Interesting, is putting it mildly. I’ve been married to a Chinese lady for 14 years and it’s never a dull minute.

Interesting...I love to hear about other countries. Hard to imagine life without Google! Enjoy your trip.
Debbie

I found that Bing and Yahoo are available in China but no where near as good as Google. The Chinese have developed their own sites that do the same thing as Facebook,Twitter, google, YouTube etc., but they are all in Chinese.

Have fun and enjoy Sir...

Thanks, I certainly am and will!

Hi Roger
I know how you feel, I am going on the weekend until 7th of July to Dalian, Kunshan, Nanyang, Tianjin, Anshan and Shenyang.
China is very crowded, especially on public transport and airports you are right. Google is already a couple of years now forbidden. All the cloud drives except one drive. Have a great time in China, Hong Kong and Macau.
Cheers Sylvia

Hi Sylvia,

According to what I read the restrictions on google and Virtual Private Networks have become increasingly harsh in 2018.

I am still having a great time - it is a gourmet’s delight every evening.
Enjoy your trip,
Roger

Hi Roger
they become harsher and they control skype, whats up, and Viber now also. It is always nice for food. Enjoy
Sylvia
