Starlings & Blockchains
Starlings & Blockchains
In nature and the blockchain, individuals often have difficulty grasping just how the results we see are achieved. Starlings can be seen flying in patterns which are marvelous to view. The formations are unique and it is so difficult to comprehend just how the birds can perform such complicated maneuvers. we have given them their own name –MURMURATIONS.
No centralized control
Like Blockchain, in Murmurations, there is no centralized control or coordination by a leader. Each starling behaves individually, yet all birds are interacting at highspeeds without touching.
Resistence to Attack
Both the blockchain and starlings have their aggressors who would do them harm. Blockchain has so far been able resist any attack by either hackers other entities. Tens of thousands to millions of starlings are still attacked by hawks or predators. When they are flying in the mesmerizing, pulsating pattern of a murmuration, they speed up and totally confuse their predator, thus avoiding harm.

Wow! Great analogy, Roger!
I understand blockchain a whole lot better than I ever did before, even after reading several (short) books about it!
Tim
Roger, there was no need! I've seen the phenomenon many times, both live and in video. The term, itself, was known because of a family trivia (Google?) game from years back: What is a group of _____ called?
For example, what is a large group of ravens called (this one's my favorite!)
Tim
Never played family trivia so at 74 I was overwhelmed with murmurations, especially because it gave me an emotional reaction for the decentralized control in blockchain.
Hi, Roger.
This is a great analogy.
Interested readers should google 'Starlings' to learn more about this incredible phenomenon.
I saw a youtube video recently that completely blew me away.
Yes, the 'Starlings' and a 'Hawk.'
Keep up the great work.
Kindest regards,
Paul.
Hi Paul,
I included two URL's of videos done by the BBC and explained (to the extent they could), but quickly found out that all links were removed from blogs.
I wouldn't have written it here if I had known. Oh, well it was another mistake and I learned something knew.
There is no way to understand murmurations without actually viewing them. I was left speechless for 45 minutes and came to understand what is possible without centralized leadership.
I will be doing a proper blog for my new site blockchainlearners
Roger
The one with the hawk sure shows what a group can do to a hacker that is not wanted by the majority.
Unbelievable.
I have to hunt it down again and maybe even use it as an intro to an intro with some stuff that I am working on.
This astonishing sequence was filmed by wild life cameraman and travel journalist Dylan Winter who is currently sailing around the UK in an 18 foot boat.

Add what you can at all times, too.
Then we move stuff from here to blockchainlearners.
Kindest regards,

No worries, older brother.
You are always on my mind.
Your site is coming along nicely. Look for a private email over the week-end. I have a couple of suggestions for you.
Kindest regards,
Paul.
Thanks. I will be looking.
Being it is a new site any comments are much appreciated.
Roger
Hi Roger,
I learned a long time ago from a member that came on board before me here. a couple of very important things.
'patience' and 'persistence.'
I still cal him "Sir, Yes, Sir!"
He is a US Government-Man so I cannot say much outside of what he allows me to be shared.
Great Guy. I will introduce you to him when he becomes active here again.
Re: Blockchain (learners), Bitcoin and the rest...
The site is looking good.
I will PM a couple of suggestions if you do not mind.
Other than that,
keep up the great work and stay in touch.
Paul.
Hopefully you googled starlings and murmurations to understand what can be done without centralized leadership.
I can imagine that many reading this are like deer in headlights. I don't say that because I think I'm well ahead of the crowd, but just because I have read a bit about it.
It's a very interesting topic!
Hi Jared,
I hope you googled murmurations and starlings in the same sense to see what is possible in nature without centralized contol.
Roger
