Why my parents called me Roger

To be honest, I have no idea why they called me Roger, but what I do know is that if anyone calls me by that name, I know that they are trying to be friendly.

Having been in sales virtually all my working life, I often heard the words "Your name is one of the most important things about you, so when speaking with people always remember to call them by their name."

I remember I read a book once by a man called Harry Lorayne on how to remember peoples names. Most of us have done it at some times where we meet a group of new people and by the time we were introduced to the 3rd person, we had already forgotten the first persons name. I remember seeing Harry Lorayne on television naming an entire audience of over 200 people.... Amazing! I'm sure you can find him on YouTube somewhere.

Anyway, getting to the point, we are a real friendly bunch here at Wealthy Affiliates and it really does surprise me to see the number of people who do not include their first name in their profiles, some of whom have been here for quite some time. So come on, lets know who you are so we can be friends?

Please be my friend, my name is Roger :-)

Hi Roger. I met an elderly woman in the hospital when I was giving birth to my son. She asked me what I named him and when I told her she looked bothered. She then proceeded to tell me how she had 7 boys. They named the first one Larry after his father. She wasn't specific about the other boys names except her 5th son. She told me that they named him Larry after his father. Yes you read that right, they named two of their sons Larry. It turns out they called their first son by a nickname for so long that they forgot that they had named him Larry and gave that name again to another one of their sons. Crazy I know, but its a true story. So perhaps beware of the nickname lol :)

Cheers,
Lori

I can tell you that I'm named Nancy because my mother thought Nancy Walker was a tremendous actress! (My mother was named Diana for Deanna Durbin, so it sort of runs in the family, lol.).

Nancy

My mother's Maiden name was Moore, so if I had been born illegitimate, they would have called me Roger Moore.

Mmm, has a nice 00 something ring to it, don't you think? :-)

Hey Sir Roger.....More???
Hi I'm Daniel, Dan for short.....it's in my profile descirption, but how I got my nicname stuck to DNunis, I have no idea...LOL!
Must have been that first faithful day when I was signing up all excited and keyed in my Username....anywaz...I guess I need to change my username...sometime soon....
I've had the difficulty of addressing any new members who follow me or I'd like to follow as well....so I normally check their profile page and search for the welcome message from either Kyle or Carson....cos I don't feel right if I don't address them by their names....how are we going to be a welcoming community and family like???
Funny thing....after teaching for so many years...what strikes me is that I will always remember the names of so many children in m classes or school, but not their parents'....they came to be known as Tommy's mummy or daddy.....as many did not introduce themselves either. Looking back.....it did sound silly me calling every single parent mummy and daddy...LOL!
Now when I teach my teachers in training, I alwasy ask them to ask how the parents' like to be addressed, as they are individuals and should be treated as such.....so some say call me Bob, or Susan.....and some say call me Mr Black or Mrs Peacock.....
Glad to be your friend Rog....call me Dan anytime...
Blessings!
Dan

AS I just said above Dan, my Mother's Maiden name was Moore so if I had been born illegitimate, they would have called me Roger Moore.

Yes, I think I am getting to like it . Pass me another martini Miss Moneypenny?

p.s. Sir Roger does look an awful lot like me don't you think? :-)

My parents didn't want to name after my grandparents, given to previous experiences of pulling forward special named children, but did want to keep family names. My sister was called after a deceased sister, so I was next and am called after my mom and dad.
Official Louise Anthonia.
To much of a mouth full for a little baby, so it changed into Loes
I love the name Louise, so one of my children is called Louise, and I can use it on a daily base;)

Hi Roger,
I agree with you on that.
I have a photo of two of my youngest grandchildren in my profile
to always remember how lucky I have been all of my life

Martin

Hi Roger, I'm Brooklyn Phil, because my name is Phil and I'm from Brooklyn. You can call me Phil or Brooklyn, or BP or Hey You!. But, if you call me Philip! I'm going to think I messed up again and you've channeled my Mom. ;^)

Hi Roger, what you are stating is absolutely true. People connect with a name and if you associate their trade with their name you can actually remember a lot of names. Something I like to do while I am driving is to count the number plates as I drive. To this day I can remember number plates that reaches 180 characters and it takes me roughly about 40 minutes. Apart from remembering the number I can also state other details like colour, model and type. Our brains are just like any other muscle in our bodies and needs to exercise regularly. People think that I am some kind of wiz but really I am just an average person that exercises his brain daily. I can remember a Windows serial key in less than 30 seconds. Anyway enough about me. I am glad that I can call you my friend Roger. You have a very blessed Christ-filled day...bye...

Thanks johandpl. I do hope that is your name?
(If not, then why not show your first name in your profile?)

Hi Roger my name is Johan Du Plessis. Johandpl is my short name. Only a pleasure...have a blessed day...bye...

Roger
Excellent point. There's no reason to hide at WA>
David

I agree Roger and I don't think anybody will struggle to find out my name either!
Mark

LOL, Let me guess ... It begins with Ma and end with rk?

Yonah

And sounds like a dog with a lisp trying to bark. :-)

Close!

Your not the first one to say that Rog, although the last one was about 40 years ago...lol

Sorry Mark. I meant no malice.

40 Years ago? That must have been me that said it :-)

Incidentally, my wife's name is Ruth. I call her 'Roof', which also sounds like a dog barking :-)

Roger, no malice was felt at all so no need for apologies but I appreciate the thought!

It happened for the only other time when I first met my wife as we were both working in a pub as teenagers, she would constantly call out my name to do something and a lot of the regulars would say she sounded like a dog with a lisp or a hair lip....Mark, Mark, Mark!!

It didn't bother me then and it doesn't bother me now either, no problem!

Mark

That's a nice reply Mark, thank you.

Do you know how to make a cat bark?

Throw it on the fire and it goes 'Woof' :-)

Hi Roger,
Speaking (or rather writing) each others names is a basis to become friends. On one hand showing respect, on the other expressing love.
Yonah

I Love that Yonah

I wish you every success in all you are striving for here at WA.
