How targeted and specific is completely up to you. Starting with a broad niche can be difficult at first because there are so many ideas and posts that can be placed. Start with a more targetted "section" and let it grow and expand as you learn and build your site.
My first site became too broad and I had way too many ideas that my mind was all over the place.
Thanks Taylor. I suppose a bit of personal trial and error might be involved, but a little help and advice can also help. Thanks again.

A lot of sites I visit/review have a photo background within the title and look loads better for this. How is this achieved?
Cheers.
I had the same problem too. While you writing your post, on the right hand side, there's a format bar with things like standard, gallery, aside etc. I clicked the gallery and vwala...my site changed from boring text to visual. This is how the gallery highlight looks like
www.moneyandfinancialtranquility.com
Hope this helps
Thanks for your quick reply, I can find the format bar, but no "gallery" therein. Think I'm having a "slow to learn" day. I'll keep trying though. Thanks again.

I think it comes with the theme one chooses
I played around and the 'image' link did make my post have the picture too. Try it and see what happens
Sorry to be a total pain, I've clicked on the image link. What next? Nothing seems to happen? I'm going to try a couple more things then leave it for now. Again thank you for your help and patience.
I am glad to help and no am learning in this process so I thank you for it. When you click the image icon, push the update button and then visit your post to see the change inf you have photos in your post. Try that out and let me know how it went. B

I've recently "broken" my original website. I tried changing it's title within the URL? After going through the lesson related to starting a website I realize this is a huge mis
Hi roft, your older site only still appears because it was indexed... so Google still has your site in the cache....
As you build your new one and begin steadily adding content and doing promotion, IT will overtake the old one...
The older site will slowly disappear and your new will replace it.....
Cliff
BTW... you won't be "competing" with your old site because it's lack of attention will drive it into oblivion.....
Ok Cliff. Thanks for that. As I'm a bit of a technophobe I panic a bit. Good to be part of a knowledgeable community. Thanks again.

I am relatively computer illiterate and all this talk of niches, websites, blogs and domains is quite daunting for me. However I relish a challenge and adapt quite well to new
I am young and for the most part grew up with computers in school, so I did come into this with some information, plus I have been researching this stuff for about the past 2 years as well. So a lot of term have not been new to me, but I'll share a story.
When I started training horses I felt exactly how you do. I remember sitting there in front of the TV watching the training programs and they would throw words out like, posting, flying lead changes, collected lead departures, vertical flextion, counter bending, two tracking, bridle, headstall, etc. And I knew none of it, but when I heard a term I didn't know, I just knew that is the new thing I needed to learn. Took it one at a time, and now I am helping others train their own horses and can talk the lingo with any pro. It'll come.
Thanks skyhorse, excellent advice. When you put it into that perspective it becomes quite simple. Every new field has alien subjects and terminology, that's the beauty of learning I suppose. Thanks again.
Welcome to WA. :) I started with no knowledge of any of this, surfing was about all I could do. At the time, I didn't know the difference between a domain and a website let alone anything else.
It is scary when all the hundreds of terms come flying at you, but keep at it everyday (don't give up) and you'll understand more and more as time goes along.
And as Josh says, always ask for help. Someone here has already been through what you are trying to figure out...so just ask.
Everyone starts with some sort of limitations. Just set small goals, follow the steps and take the actions. Don't allow technical hurdles to be an issue. Always ask for help.
