Can any niche be profitable, yes or no?
I've seen a lot of people here with a lot of different niches and it made me ask an all important question, can any niche be profitable and if so, how? I didn't think that my niche, video games and video game tech, can be profitable but I had a vision about the possibilities of how the video game niche can and I can say that it can be profitable but I wonder sometimes if I'm not going about it all wrong like what can I do to make me more profitable or my niche more attractive? What do you guys think?

I have trouble thinking through this as well. MY niche may not be 100% clear and the way that I blog isn’t common either. I know here is likely a way to make it profitable but I have to figure out exactly how. I am still new so I know it will take some time.
I removed the .com designations to protect the guilty. Have fun...
1. Sell Jellyfish
Jellyfish may not be the cuddliest pets, but there is a market for them, and they're not cheap.
In fact, the least-expensive kit on Jelly Fish Art costs $330. For that, a customer gets one jellyfish, a small tank, and enough food to last for three months.
2. Communicate With Dead Pets
As a medium, you help clients connect with people who have passed away.
But psychic Lisa Miller says, “Animals, both living and deceased, are eager to connect also!” An hour-long phone consultation costs $125, but Miller offers clients a $25 discount if they submit a testimonial to Best Psychic Directory.
3. Win Cash as a Professional Eater
If you've seen eating contests on TV, you may have wondered if you could make a living with this “sport.”
Maybe. Just look at the list of upcoming events on MajorLeagueEating.com, and check out the list of competitive eaters on Wikipedia. Several have won more than $100,000 in prize money.
4. Become a Professional Weight Loser
After you end your competitive eating career, you can win big money betting on your weight loss with Healthy Wage.
Your potential prize money depends on how much you bet and your personal data. HealthyWage explains, “We give bigger prizes to people who statistically have a harder time losing weight.” At the moment, the maximum prize is $10,000.
5. Paint Dumpsters
There are two kinds of dumpster painters. Industrial painters like Noll's Dumpster Painting in Pennsylvania and Container Painting Repair in Maryland show up on business data sites like Buzzfile and Manta.
6. Review “Sensitive Content” for Google
Somebody has to check out questionable YouTube videos. One man, profiled on BuzzFeed, had to watch “sensitive content,” videos which included pornography, suicide and bestiality. He worked alone — and eventually needed therapy.
After a year as a contractor for Google, he had to either be let go or hired full-time. They let him go and suggested he get further therapy.
7. Become a Lice Removal Technician
As a lice removal technician, you can make $30 per hour plus travel expenses, according to a Craigslist posting by Lice Doctors.
You'll be an independent contractor, but Lice Doctors will train you in how to use their “all-natural 100-percent-effective” methods. You'll need to make house calls, and you'll spend up to five hours on each one.
Very impressive Steve, very impressive indeed. So I have a question for you, if you were in the video game niche, what would constitute your Jellyfish sale or your Lice Removal?
I don't know enough about your niche.
There are a limited number of variables I think?
1. the games themselves (single or multi player - maybe multi languages)
2. game equipment (controllers, sound equipment, video etc.- I know there is special game furniture - chairs with speakers)
3. how to buy and sell games
4. how to win the games
5. marketing merchandise (posters, trailers, etc.)
6. How about exercises to prevent carpel tunnel from playing too much? Or, exercises to improve your playing skills?
You tell me what else is there?
that's what I'm talking about
then the high-end audio and video systems
these are items where the sales commission would be pretty good
I'm on it. You know Steve it's funny, I've thought about game chairs for the longest but I've had trouble with the affiliate programs but I found others I'm going to try.
Good question to which BigRog has given a good answer, in which lies a good answer that I was going to say
Advertising is a great niche...
Facebook, Google, Twitter, YouTube to name but 4, earn their cash that way
Equally I have earned my money over the years from two main sources, ADVERTIISNG is one way and HOW to Products for Small Business Owners is another way
You mean advertise like I have been promoting items on my website or is that different and how do I advertise what I have; some might see that as selling or intent to sell
No Rod, not all, I mean advertising Solutions for small business, that is a niche that is evergreen and timeless
See that's what I'm saying, advertising my niche; this makes me question if I am doing it right after all.
That's exactly what the training here is for :) Follow this training and you're setting yourself up for success. When you have guidance like we have here, just about any niche can be a successful one :)
I agree Eric, but I feel like there's that piece missing that's right under my nose; it's like you're looking for a needle in a haystack but you find that the needle was nowhere near as big as you thought and you stumble upon it after you've practically given up. That's how I feel sometimes.
The needle in the haystack is patience. That's it. If you could just do keyword research and post content and start making full time money in a month or two, everyone and their mom would have an affiliate marketing website. The fact is that it takes time for traffic to build, and while that traffic is building you have to put in the work and keep creating content, and even though it feels like you're creating content for nobody, all that work pays off in the end because even old posts will get the eyes on them they deserve when you start ranking. Most everyone quits before they succeed. It's all about patience :)
Thank you Eric for the reassurance, I'm happy that I'm sticking with it because Wealthy Affiliate is my best shot at making online money doing what I love. I'll never stop and I'm glad that I'm doing it right while being patient but more importantly creating content continuously without giving up. All this time I thought there was some 'magic' formula because I saw people on here getting sales because their content is likable and more marketable than mine when all I have to do is to continue to create content. I thought there was more to it, I'm happy there isn't.

Hi Rodney, actually there may not be a simple yes, or no answer to your question. On the surface, I would say any niche could be profitable, however, it all depends on how you work at it and define those areas that could bring you income, such as affiliates, etc.
