Help! I am new here. was working on a website, not at all finished and suddenly it is published? How can I remove it until it is ready? Haven't even changed the wording or anyt

Your website is always live on the internet, you won't be able to take it off the internet.

No one is seeing your site when it's brand new so you don't have to worry about anyone seeing an unfinished site.

It takes a few months before Google starts ranking (indexing happens much faster and earlier though) you so you won't get much visitors until you start producing content consistently.

Just follow the training and keep building your site out and soon your site will look better and better.

Thank you Grace, I am here because of your blog so I know this works. I just have a lot to learn and figure out.

Thanks for your support!!

Yeah exactly, this works indeed, Rodger. You'll be able to figure this all out soon enough, just stick to the training closely. :)

Hi - remember, that your site hasn't been found by Google yet. This is called indexing and can take up to a couple of weeks. Even after that, it will be quite some time before any visitors find your site. You may wish to keep it live, to keep it in front of Google's eyes.

Thanks for your response. All I did was put the name on it and did not get to even delete the default text or add any content. I was clicking around to figure it out and bingo it said it was published! Yipes, I would like to finish it first.

A website is never finished! However, you can use a "coming soon" plugin if you wish.

Ok I have to be out for a while today, guess I will try and edit it as I go. Thank you so much

I have never attempted anything like this before. Not sure how broad or narrow the niche is intended for best results. I wanted to promote camping accessories. Is that too b

Hi Rodger, you should start your site with a narrow niche because it'll be easier for you to get ranked. Once your site is more ranked and gains more authority in the space, then you can expand your niche more. This is why you start small and narrow first then you can expand later. Camping accessories is okay to do, there are tons of camping things to write about. :)

Grace

Hi Rodger 10,

Please know that I am very new here. In my humble opinion, I really think camping accessories sounds like a fine niche.

I don’t get the opportunity to go camping so I do not know about the world of accessories and it’s possible sub-categories.

You will be writing articles and blogging down the line so you want to have enough things to write about. If you could write forever about say, camping tents, then perhaps you might want to be more specific.

I hope that helps. And, I wish you much success with whatever niche you choose.

Kate

Thank you Kate, I appreciate the support. Have much to learn.

Hi Roger. here is an excellent article (not by me!) on how to narrow down your niche.: Hope it helps.
Philip

Thank you so much, the article was helpful. It has some excellent suggestions to help me get started. This is a marathon not a sprint so I will keep plugging along.

Thanks,
Rodger10

Great attitude, Roger, good luck to you.

Hi Rodger
The good thing about starting narrow is that you can expand.
If you're struggling to know how narrow to go, I recommend using Amazon to help.
So, visiting Amazon.com, I followed the following bread crumb trail
Sports & Outdoors > Outdoor Recreation > Camping & Hiking > Camping Furniture > Chairs

and that was as low as I could go thus Camping Chairs could be a starting niche for you and you could expand upwards and into cots, hammocks and stools etc.

I hope that helps in some way

Thank you, it is helpful. I have not been able to continue the process without having a fully defined product or products to start the domain/website portion.
Thanks,
Rodger10

On a personal note Rodger , I believe you need to be careful not to make the niche too narrow. You need to remember that you will need to write heaps of good quality content, this can be difficult in a narrow niche.
It's far more important to pick a target audience , and this will depend on the niche. For example , my original blog was on gardening and aimed at beginner gardeners in particular. This left me with a reasonably broad niche that I could write continuous articles in.
At the same time It gave me a website in which I could do lots of review articles on heaps of tools. I personally prefer this to a niche where I concentrate on only one or two products. But this is totally up to the individual.
.

That's what I was thinking...
Thanks for the input,
Rodger10

Yes, very good point Jim - apologies Rodger - go with Jim's idea
