WA Affiliate Program
Updated

I'm having abit of a problem with the way my WA is set up and hoping to get some insight from members hosting their blog on their own domain, outside of WA.

Here

Hi Robert ... I think it is important to consider your long-term objective ... remember WA members are NOT your target market! In fact, other then the commenting program you are not permitted to promote your site here.
The more effort you put into attracting potential customers from the 4 billion internet users the better ... be sure to provide content of value ... with good SEO, more traffic will come.
As hosting, email and SSL are all part of your membership, I would consider pointing your nameservers here.
The support desk may be able to help you with the email setup (not sure).
Otherwise create a second site ... nothing wrong with having two sites as long as you have the time and energy to keep them current.

Hi Allan

Changing my nameservers to WA is not an option. They don't support DNS settings so I wouldn't be able to route my emails to where they need to go. Another option would be to points the DNS on my current server for a (blog) subdomain to WA servers, but again that is not supported.

I spoke to the support, and they confirmed that.

My two options are:
1 ) carry on with the current setup and do a bit more manual work and lose out on some features like SiteComments

2) lose all my organic traffic that is brought by people interested in my services and start a new website for my affiliate marketing

I did not think a domain registrar is permitted to restrict dns to that degree ... as far as I know a registrar is required to allow changes.

All of your current "organic" traffic would just be re-routed to your site on WA ...

Your existing site content can easily be ported over if your existing site is a WP site ...

The only real issue I can see is the email history may not be transferable .. but you should be able to retain the history locally in Outlook or other email client you may be using.

Allan

I'm sure there are many, and you should receive some answers from this knowledgeable bunch soon!!

I have a long standing domain with another supplier that's pointing to a server I'm renting where my main website is listed. I don't intend to change those, so cannot change my

Hey Robert,

Perhaps SiteSupport can assist you if you provide them with full details: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/support

Be sure to make the selections shown in the screen print below so that your question will reach SiteSupport and not back into another classroom.

Hope you find this helpful.

Thanks, I tried that and:

"Please note that you cannot point and host your subdomain here unless the main domain is hosted here at WA."

Shame, but I guess I'll just create my own blog and use what I've learnt here to apply there.

You CAN do affiliate marketing from right where your website is now Robert. Or better still, check this training out:

Thanks for the links. That was kind of my plan. My main website is of a business I am running. I was going to add the blog with affiliate links as a subdomain. But now I'll just add a blog page to my main website and do it from there.

I guess I can still do links to Amazon and other affiliate website, but I haven't got that far in the training yet :)

Yes, do stick with Kyle's training Robert. Only those of us who wander off end up delaying our own success.

You could always create a SiteRubix site (free!) to use during the training and then if you still want to merge your content with your business you can easily export from one website to anther, taking all comments with the content: OR... simply move it to a brand new domain:

Hi Trish

That's a great idea. I'm familiar with the export/import routing since one of my clients has 2 websites where she often shares pages from one site to another, but I haven't thought about creating content here on the WA platform, and then copying it to my website. That's very smart :)

I've watched your video and I think I'll solve the issue of having to manually copy the images across, by saving all the images I use in a dedicated OneDrive folder, from which I can share the URL to each image to the blog post. That way the URL for image is the same regardless of the site it's shown from.

Thanks!

Ooooh, you are so smart Robert. Don't think I would have thought about that option. Good on you!

Thanks Trish. Just applying what I know so far and maybe in the process someone will find it useful.
