Internet Marketing Wont Work Without Good SEO
Hi Folks
I've had so many questions asked of me this past few days about SEO.
The main one being - How Do I Know If I'm Getting It Right?
Although content is king, it wont achieve a great rank in the SERPs if it hasn't been search engine optimized.
To that end this blog will, I hope, provide insight into what SEO is and will explain why internet marketing requires at least some degree of SEO. Please take the tips and advice onboard because without good SEO, your site is not going to do well at all.
Search engine optimization should always be considered a critical element of your internet marketing strategy. This is important because there is so much which can be gained from SEO in terms of internet marketing and advertising. Failure to optimize your website for search engines can result in a considerable loss in terms of free advertising which is essentially gained from ranking well with search engines.
SEO optimization is a strategy in which a website is designed to obtain favorable search engine rankings from popular search engines. This may be achieved in a variety of different ways and optimal SEO strategies combine a variety of different strategies to complete one well orchestrated SEO campaign.
There are several elements to consider when attempting to optimize your website for search engines.
This may include keyword density, prominence, META tags, titles and inbound links.
Keyword density is one of the most common SEO strategies and essentially involves using relevant keywords often in the content of a website to demonstrate the relevance of these keywords to the website. This is important because search engines are likely to reward websites with optimal keyword densities with favorable search engine rankings in an effort to provide internet users with the most relevant websites for particular search terms.
The prominence of keywords should also be considered. This includes how close the keywords are placed to the beginning of the website content.
The most common mistake I see people make with this strategy is to believe the first opportunity to incorporate keywords is in the first line of visible text on the webpage.
This is not true because search engines crawl the code of a website as opposed to the visible content on the website.
This means there are multiple opportunities to incorporate relevant keywords long before the actual visible content on the website. This might include the code for the title as well as the META tags. Business owners who realize the potential for incorporating keyword into the code gain an advantage over competitors who only incorporate keywords into the content on their website.
Another area of concern which is very important for those who are interested in SEO are inbound links.
Inbound links are essentially links which reside on other websites and direct traffic to your website. These links are considered important because many search engines place a value on inbound links because they are essentially an example of one website recommending another website. However, when obtaining inbound links its important to do so from other websites which rank well with search engines because many search engines consider the rank of the original website when determining the value of the inbound link.
Now that I have briefly explained some of the main concepts of SEO, I will tell you why its important to optimize your website in the first place.
SEO is so important because most internet users place a high value on the results of search engines, and are likely to only visit ranking websites when they search for a particular keyword.
Internet users trust search engines to serve the most relevant content first, and are therefore not likely to visit websites which are not listed on the first or second page of search results. You will surely notice in the pie chart below that the number one is Trust. Never, ever forget this.
This means websites which rank well are essentially receiving a great deal of free advertising from search engines that place their website in a key position.
Website owners who do not invest the time and effort into optimizing their websites miss out on a great deal of potential web traffic.

I don't use Yoast now because I believe the AIO is better.
It's my first time to hear that AIO, Robert and immediately I searched about it and there are varied. I know a bit of Yoast than others.
Each marketer has their own preference Jimmy.
There are pluses and minuses with both plugins.
No you can't, you must use one of the online tools such as the one I gave you the link to.

Keyword density effectiveness is debatable depending on who you currently speak to, some say the search engines have made this obsolete as they don't find this metric important for rankings anymore.
Contrary to this, Yoast SEO still considers Keyword density as an important component to good SEO,
But others even here will argue to only place your main keyword in your title, first paragraph, meta title, and meta description.
A year ago I would have agreed with you regarding Keywords and the density.
However since then Google has brought out quite a few new Algorithms that has put paid to Keywords as a ranking factor.
Although its still important to include the best you can find simply because they are the search terms you hope users will type into their browsers to find what they're looking for there are other ways to use them other than the tried and tested Title, Headline, Description etc etc.
I still put the keyword (longtail) within my permalink because that is what the search engines will read to index and partially rank you for.
How about you Kaju, what do you do differently now?

No doubt Robert, Numero Uno I almost ALWAYS put the exact long-tail keyword as my permalink, or at the very least more than 1/2 of the keyword in the permalink.
In fact, I don't have to do this, Yoast SEO automatically does this for me, as long as I put the keyword in my Main Title, which I always will. However, the Meta Title can sometimes be slightly different, and I also always include my exact long-tail keyword in a natural way in my Meta Description. Then I spray that long-tail keyword in at least 2-3 of my sub-headings, and naturally throughout the post. I also include that long-tail keyword in the ALT text of my images. Robert
However where a few others argue with me (and Yoast SEO for that matter) is on Keyword Density. I follow Yoast and believe what it tells me to do is correct.
I have found that if my Keyword Density is between 0.003 and 0.009 % (in order words 1/3 of 1% and 9/10 of 1%), then that is the "sweet spot" according to Yoast. So for a 2000 word post, I could include up to 18 occurences of the long-tail keyword, and I am still not keyword stuffing.
Some have argued with me on this, stating that this is not the "WA way"; you should only place your long-tail keyword in your Meta Title, Main Title, first paragraph..and That's It!
I don't agree. And my articles rank this way.

Had a great time with my granddaughter, and she wasn't coming to my rescue. Family first Kaju and everything and everyone else second.
I too have my best keyword/keyword phrase in my Permalink, always have done this although I can add relevant words to the Meta title and it still shows in full at the top of my article when published. same goes for my Description and in fact I usually add the title and my H1 tag as well.
Also a lot of the time the full title and the H1 Tag will come to the 160 characters minimum so that suits me just fine.
I used to have Yoast but got disillusioned with it. I didn't like its traffic Lights System. (they kept telling me I was wrong to do this, that or the other) but I kept to my way anyway. Never did find out if this was detrimental to my site or not but my articles got ranked pretty high up the SERPs anyway so I must have been doing something right.
I too have my main keyword/keyword phrase as my Alt Tag in the first image of the article. I thought this was standard advice in the WA Training. I also have up to 5 good secondary keywords throughout my article.
I have to disagree with 18 keywords throughout a 2,000 word article though. That smacks of keyword stuffing, and I don't mean its not what WA teaches, I couldn't care less what WA says because that's been based on an algorithm that's no longer valid. but you still don't want to antagonize Google, do you, so why take the risk?
At the end of the day if it works for you then go for it but I wouldn't advise anyone to go down the same route simply because my blogs are aimed mainly at Newbies and they want to know what's the right way and what can get them into trouble with the search engines.
So far I believe I have given the best advice based on my own research and the further comments and messages I get bears this out.
We agree on most things regarding SEO Kaju and can agree to disagree on others because you use Yoast and I use AIO.

Sounds good Robert, I wanted to correct you and state that Yoast would give a "green light" for a 2000 word article of up to 18 keyword occurrences. Most of the time, the number of keyword occurrences I will use for a 2000 word article will be much less (.003 = 6 KW occurrences).
However, even the KW density max. 18 keyword occurrences per 2000 word article would be consistent and WELL within the limit with some of your own past recommendations in your blogs (.015 max = 30 occurrences). I do remember in your past blogs here you recommended a KW density in an article of up to 1.5%.

Ok Kaju, I know I have recommended 1.5% in the past but googles algorithms change virtually everything to do with SEO at some time or another and we have to keep up with them and change with them.

You are THE man. Thank you for the great explanation! I have several websites and wondered why the same SEO practices don't quite work the same. Competitors adding keywords to codes and meta tags! AHA moment, I have also noticed that the site that is ranking in positions of 15+ consistently and has much better content(I don't write it lol) than others that I use the same SEO techniques that land on page 1 regularly.
Can you say advanced white hat SEO?

Always White Hat Dennis, it would be foolish to use anything else.
I don't know of any training on the use of Codes as it could be a wee bit too technical for People who are new to working online and getting involved with Internet marketing.
I'm sure there will be plenty of trainings online though so have a browse and see what you can come up with.

Yaaa I will do the research that is the key to my personal success. You just hit a vibing nerve as i have been toying with those ideas as I have been doing this awhile. Really successfully for me, Financially I have multiple streams that combine to allow me to eat vegetarian burgers LOL (ye ole stent in the heart)
The thing is the last 3 yrs I have been wildly successful compared to my internet past! This is all attributed to the WA community and fine knowledgeable people like yourself!

Do you know any CSS for html?
A handy skill to have, unfortunately way back in the early internet days it was easy enough and I built hundreds of sites using it.
Now-a-days though its a wee bit harder and I just don't have the time to take courses to bone up on it.
On the other hand I had to learn SEO from scratch back when I took early retirement simply because I did not have a clue.
Now I pass on the benefits of my experience and knowledge to others.
Hopefully they take it onboard and if not then its their loss.
Also now-a-days I mainly mentor and tutor and that is how I earn a crust and its ok as I'm not a greedy person and if I had loads of cash I would not know what to do with it.
Probably give it away to my two daughters.

No I am ZERO on CSS. I started with DOS in 81 and went to pc windows in 87 and forgot all that and in 95 I paid to have my first site built in code as I sat there and watched. lol It wasn't till XP that I started building websites and it has been all builders since no real coding. I do the child theme thing and insert code and been lucky i think I haven't crashed anything LOL
Like you I am more concerned with personal freedom and comfort than the bank account anymore. Been there done that as they say!

Thank you for this post! I have been working on my website for 2 years with zero profit and I am ready to give up. All I need is $500 a month to make ends meet and it just isn't there...However, I think I just need to rework some of my articles to get them ranked better. I falsely believed that just good content would win the war but I think I need to focus more on keywords for sure!
