Good Reasons Why You Should Have Your Own Domain Name

Hi Folks

I see a lot of newbies ask should they get their own Domain Name soon after joining WA.

I usually answer them by saying its best if they continue with the initial training with a free SiteRubix so that they can practice.

Why? Simply because being new members without any or not a lot of experience and/or knowledge about websites or working online its best they make the mistakes they surely will with a free site. This way they will learn what to do, how to do it, and be able to correct their mistakes.

For those who have already finished the Getting Started lessons and have moved on to the Bootcamp, have created a website and want to apply to become affiliates, this is the time to buy your own Domain. Why?

Because even if you're promoting just an affiliate link you should get your own domain name. Here are a few reasons why.

1. People Are More Likely To Click On Your Link if It Is Your Own Domain Name Rather Than a Long Cumbersome Affiliate Link with an extension.

Here is a typical example of a Clickbank Link -

When you look at the example above it almost looks like a virus of some kind. Many people will not click on the link just because it looks long complicated and a little scary.

What link are you most likely to click on?

This one www.robertallansfriendlywebsite.com or the Clickbank one?

No contest really!

I would go with robertallansfriendlywebsite big time. It just looks better. You might not even consciously decide to click on it, but you will, if only out of curiosity. You want people to feel good about clicking on your link and going to your website. At the end of the day you only get one chance to make a first impression.

2. If You Decide To Change Direction You Can Re-Direct Your Domain Name To Another Program.

When you promote a direct affiliate link you are building somebody else’s business. All that hard work and money that you spent on promotion will benefit the website owner not you if you're no longer affiliated with that program.

However, if you promote your own domain name and change your mind and want to promote something else you can just change a few settings in your control panel and Hey Presto! you're promoting a new program.

3. When You Have Your Own Domain Name You Can Build Your Own Brand

Back to the theme of promoting your business rather than the owner of the affiliate website. A domain name just looks more professional and tells people you are invested in your image and business. You can then create your own YouTube and social media pages around your brand so you can build your own audience.

4. With Your Own Domain Name You Can Have Your Own Blog and Start Building Your Own Mailing List

Rather than promoting an affiliate URL have you considered starting a blog around your topic and starting to build your own mailing list? This is a longer term approach but a smarter one. If you start building your own community and list you can promote multiple affiliate programs not just one. Try thinking more long term and start promoting your own brand, blog and list.

5. Your Link is More Likely to Get Accepted By Social Media Sites With Your Own Domain Name

Sites like Twitter and Facebook often block popular short links like tinyurl.com or affiliate links from major affiliate networks like Clickbank. If you have your own domain name you can often bypass these blocks. You will find that your Ads will get accepted in many more places if you actually have your own domain name.

You can usually get your own domain name for peanuts per year so really it's a no brainer. It's well worth it to invest in your own domain name if you're doing affiliate marketing.

Remember your Domain Name will be your brand so think carefully about what you want to call it. Just as a matter of interest take a look at the graphic below and see some of the biggest names on the internet, and what they used to be known as.

Ok folks there you have it on Domain Names. Anyone with any other thoughts on this subject can leave them below via a comment.

Have a great day and be successful.

Totally agree, have my name, make that have my names. Email lists coming up!

Hi Rosana
Thank you for reading.
Have a nice Wednesday.
Robert

My own Domain Name is #1 on my to-do list. :)

Top of the list I hope John.
Thank you for your visit.
Robert

A nice thought and Thanks!
Realistically, well, we'll see what we see when and as we see it but it'll be fun getting things built and worked out. :)

Yes John make it fun, coz if it becomes a bore you might as well throw in the towel.
Enjoy your Wednesday.
Robert

I think that's a mistake many people make when they start trying to do a business of their own, they start looking at it as 'work' instead of the adventure springing from their passions that it started off as/should have been to begin with.
I've seen others make that mistake over the past few years, and prefer not to go down that road myself.

Right now, I've been exploring the various ideas for Niches in general and things in specific I can offer, gathering up a list of things that all have good track records and will work with WA in a manner akin to how the various parts of an engine come together to fulfill a single purpose.

I MIGHT also consider offering courses teaching what I know regarding trading in precious metals (Gold & Silver) but this is an idea that I need to give a great deal more thought,

Whatever works for you is always best John.
Also whatever you have experience and/or knowledge of so that you can write with some authority and people will come to trust what you are telling them.
Trust is all-important and without it you are going nowhere.
Now its time I was off for the night.

Your own domain name is your little bit of the information superhighway.

I would always advise getting a domain name as soon as you can. If it is a catch name there is a good chance it could be gone the next time you look.

Better be safe than sorry.

Derek

Hello Derek
Just make sure the name matches up to your brand and you wont go far wrong.
Thank you for your visit.

Thanks, Robert for this. I always knew that having my own domain name was the best idea. It took a while to come up with it.
